Dragon M4A3E8 Thunderbolt Progress New pics 9-25

While waiting for airbrush parts to come in so I can get back to the Panther G, I started this kit. Nice details, horrible directions (wrong locations for parts, vague placement, wrong placement, missing steps)

EDIT: click on the pic to see the whole thing. The pic size must be too big or something

Look at those big, beautiful weld beads!

I see more sanding on the grouser cover area is needed.

the Not-So-Easy-8 bogies. The pic is blurry because thats how I felt after finishing them

Looks like your in for alot of fun. Keep the pics coming!!

Thanks. The instructions require WAY too much concentration.

Sounds like the usual standard for a DML kit. [:)]

Off to a good start on this one Jason, keep slugging.

they give you this nice aluminum barrel and the muzzle brake won’t fit it. The brake has a little attachment point and the barrel has a huge hole. I couldn’t get the glue to stick, so I migt need to do something a little creative. Maybe apokxie sculpt to fill the hole

Nice progress. I’ve been really curious about this one.I’m a big fan of easy 8 Sherman’s. Now that you’ve got the bogie’s together, what is the attachment points between the bogie’s, and hull like? On all the DML easy 8s I’ve built, attaching the bogie’s have been a “challenge”. Looking good and thanks for posting.

They are just as easy as the VVSS ones. very snug and secure, not like the older Dragon offering

Cool. I think I’ll call the LHS tomorrow. Thanks

Keep us updated with your progress. I have this kit on my want list with the wife.

Great kit, but the instructions are so-so. Definitely get the wife to buy it!

First, let me aplogize for the light. I have a swivel arm light that broke, so the lighting wasn’t the best. Here is the mods I did to the armor. The side armor was cut so it extended to the middle of the fender, not the end. This was prior to glue clean up armound the braces.

The front armor was cut in half height wise, since Thunderbolt had 2 bottom plates not 1. I didn’t cut the piece completely in half. More of a deep scoring with a razor saw

Next, I tried a different paint technique for me. First I used John Steinman’s paint it all black technique. Now, I read Kenneth Childress’ pin filter artical on Ausfwerk’s website, but I use acrylics so it wouldn’t work. So I thought maybe I would spray light coats of splotchy colors to give undertones to the OD. I sprayed some brown on the lower sides where it would be dirty and light gray and yellow on the top sections where paint would fade. I had to clean up a little splatter…must have not mixed the paint right

Finally, I light coat of OD green. I wished the light was better, because the pics don’t quite show the subtle tones of the OD

Looking good! Should turn out great!

Looking good Jason. [tup] [tup]

I’ll be watching your build as I recently added this kit to my stash.

I have a list of corrections to the directions. Wow…that was very Dr. Seuss-ish

I look forward to your corrections…

To the disordered directions…

Any maybe a few of your build suggestions.

Nice progress. Interesting paint technique. Looks like a nice kit.

Making good progress on this one Jason. Tell your wife that the light incident is now an excuse for you to buy a new kit.

I tried it…you should have seen the look

I know that look. I fear that look.

Nice job on the Sherman. I have to add that kit to my wish list. And mark this page for future reference.

Looks great Jason. Interesting painting technique.
