Does anyone here play any dogfighting simulators of FPS games etc?
Ive been searching for a some too download, but the best I’ve got is BF1942 multiplayer demo. You can verse your friends over the Internet from the sky, sea, or the ground.
Here is BoB, I’m German. But I stole a Spitfire. (so that is why I’m shooting down other spitfires)
The second video is on wake island, and I’m attempting to try the art of “no-scoping”.
The graphics are laughably bad 20-ish years on, but this game swallowed up huge swaths of my youth. And you can download and run it on DOS emulators for free these days.
I think I have a tub full of Leggos in the attic…they’d work perfectly!!!
“Janes” had an AWESOME WW2 combat sim for PC. European Theatre is the only one I had…many, many hours went into it. It just didn’t work right on my new PC though…BOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
If you have “Play Station”…the “Ace Combat” series is excellent. #4 is the best, IMHO.
I’m tellin’ ya, from a gameplay perspective, it was the best. Every friggin’ aircraft you could think of (the '46 expansion pack included stuff like the F7F Tigercat, F2G Corsair and even a P-80 Shooting Star). Nothing I played since until I gave up on flight sims ever really came close.
Want to give something else a try some day, but honestly with two kids and models my time is pretty much accounted for these days!
I’ve got Battlefield 3 for the Playstation 3. Closest game i’ve got to a flight simulator. I got the Back to Karkand download for it and one of the maps is Wake Island. Now it’s dark, fire everywhere, etc. Very war torn map.
You definitely need to get Il-2. You can get the series on Steam for a really low price. The new one, Cliffs of Dover, does look good, but I always preferred flying on the Eastern Front. There was a console version that came out about 3-4 years ago, called Il-2 Birds of Prey on the Xbox or PS3- not bad games, good graphics, but hardly anyone was online. You can download the demo.
Pretty sure Cliffs of Dover is (as always w/ IL-2) PC-only, right?
Sigh.
I’d pay good money for an Sturmovik-quality simulator for the Mac or, better yet, XBox 360. The issue in the past was always resolution, but in this age of 1920x1080, that’s not so much an issue. But from what I’ve seen whenever I’ve looked all the fight sims for XBox 360 are more akin to After Burner.
Oh yeah, I played the krap outta this years and years ago, plus Aces Over Europe. The World War II: 1946 (the A-bomb didn’t work and the Allies invaded Japan) expansion to Aces Of the Pacific was awesome with the Tigercat, Bearcat, Kikka, Shinden and lots of other great late war aircraft.
I’ve got Il-2 Stormovik but oddly never really got into it that much. Been playing Skyrim almost every night- biggest reason I’m getting nothing done modeling wise.
I have IL-2, but haven’t played it in a few years. It is really intense. Back when I was on there all the time, there were some really good online dogfights, sometimes with 50 planes or more. I was using IR tracker and teamspeak and playing coordinated team dogfights. Highly recommended!
I used to be able to play online for free, now I just play offline from time to time.
Try Aces High. www.hitechcreations.com By for the most realistic WW2, and now WW1 flight sim Ive ever played. You can change your loadouts to your preferance, theres no objectives to follow so its pretty much do whatever, however you want. you can use the battle ships big guns and AA guns, take off of a carrier and such, there are a few tanks and such too.
The release of the newest IL2 was more than a little controversial. A lot of people had trouble making it work. Check out the IL-2 forum to get a better sense of how things are going now. I haven’t checked it out in a while.
It also requires a lot of computer to run it well.

Score! That’s something I’ll definitely have to check out - just as soon as I get my XBox set up (and solve the Wi-fi coverage in the office issue).

If you’ve played the PC version of IL2, you’ll be VERY disappointed in the console (X-BOX) version. It’s very arcadish, and the graphics totally create vacum pressure by oral means compared to the PC version. My kids bought this for me for Christmas last year to try and get me to play X-Box with them, and although it’s fun in an X-BOX sort of way, I much prefer it on the PC.
RE: Aces High II, I fully agree with the previous poster. It is the most realistic WWII flight sim that I’ve ever tried - very addicting. For only $14.95/month its a great bargain. I was a subscriber form the time I went on medical retirement in 2003 until last year (budget reasons… ) TO get the most out of it, you’ll need a good joystick, and as the budget permits, rudder pedals, etc.
And yes, I used to play the heck out of both Aces Pacific and Europe back in the 80’s!
nah…I’d have to respectfully disagree with you there. AC5, The Unsung War has by far, some of the best story telling of any game that Ive played. Its one of the few games that actually made me upset about what happened to one of the characters.
and the past couple of AceCombat games have been released on Xbox as well, but AC6 was a bit of a letdown. Not only did I completely finish and easily unlock everything in the game in only a few weeks of off and on playing, but the story was boring and I didnt care for any of the characters… [:|]
The newest release, Assault Horizon looks like its shaking things up a bit, but unfortunately Ive been informed that I wont be getting it for Xmas. [:'(]
I have been playing Sims since the Comadore 64 days, the one that I have enjoyed the most had to be from Microprose. European Air War, with all the updates and sounds was too fun. I have tried most of them, my latest was IL2 CoD which is good but still left me wanting a bit.
graphics are adequate at best but the physics are brutally realistic and for the 1st few weeks youll swear blind everybody has an aim bot because you headshotted in a spitfire without ever seeing the enemy!
what platform? pc has heroes over the pacific. lock on modern air combat. falcon allied assault. home console id recommend anything from the ace combat series. back to pc wings over vietnam is good too ify you can find it
