Alrighty, I’ve been working on this project for 2 years, and the work so far has been pretty poorly documented lol. I’m going to start building up the progress log on this website!
Here’s the basis of the project and what I’ve done so far. The build was inspired by this drawing I did during a class in an important chem class in high school (yeah I know I need to rethink my priorities).
After a couple months of tinkering, I ended up with this rather ugly looking frame. I used a bunch of parts from my spares and I ultimately added the EG Nu Gundam legs into the mix to get it to the height I wanted.
After a few more months of procrastinating (I actually completely got rid of my backlog), I finally got the courage to sit down and work on the finer details of the silhouette and growing in from that ugly naked scarecrow into something that looks pretty neat now. I scratch built the gatling gun assembly on the shield (which you can’t really see), and I integrated magnets all throughout the build. This isn’t what it currently looks like, but it’s the most updated picture I have now.
I’m now currently working on filling all the gaps to make it look more “whole” and adding more detail! I just popped open some epoxy, and I’m reshaping the shield as well as the fat gaps between the thighs and column. Ok, that’s mostly everything that this project has gone through so far! I’ll keep posting updates as I make more adjustments!
I love it! It is so different from the stock Zeta! It is unique and bold, like something Edna Mode would design. OOTB Gunpla? HA! That is for children! Just remember - NO CAPES!
Thanks! I really wanted to make sure it didn’t look OOTB, and I also wanted to incorporate some inspiration from the IBO and Sentinel stuff while still maintaining some of the core Zeta design elements.
Bookmarked and following the build. Your customized Gundam build is looking solid.
I wouldn’t have known it was kitbash if you hadn’t said anything. Which just highlights my ignorance of Gundam. lol
Just a small update on detailing. I got the boosters, rear wing “dress,” and side-skirt things detailed. Looks pretty ugly rn, but hopefully the details will be more visible with a layer of primer.
Didn’t have too much time this past week because I had finals, but right now I’m continuing to work on detailing the legs! I found a couple areas on the feet that I have to fill with putty. Once I’m done with that, I just have to wash the parts and prime!
Thanks! I’m gonna try to finish it up in the next week or so because I want to make a local IPMS chapter competition! Haven’t been to one before, so I’m looking forward to it!
Alrighty detailing is DONE! I finally got it to look like something I was super proud of! Gonna start washing and painting today and tomorrow! Got to finish before the competition this weekend.
Going to do a satin finish with minor weathering. Color scheme wise, it’s going to be essentially the same as the traditional Zeta Gundam (but with a spin of course). I didn’t want to change too much and take away too much of the original design inspiration. The colors are likely going to be muted though, and the red is going to be a much richer color. I might do some light blue (almost white) thin stripes in some of the more open areas like the shield and legs. I’m so excited to do the decaling. I have like 7 sheets that I’m pulling from. Anyways, enough of the rant, here’s the photos!
I really look forward to seeing your paint scheme! Hey, you know what? Your Zeta Gundam is so different in silhouette compared to the TV version, you might have pre-empted Hideki Anno in showcasing the Gkwuuuuuux Zeta!
But hurry, Star Force, you have to make that contest deadline!
