Now thats what I’m talking about! Nice job I like it. How do you like working with the resin parts? I just bought the Czech Model Curtiss A-12 shrike today at the LHS. It will be a while before I get started on this baby. Like I said before I haven’t worked with resin before either so it will be quite a learning experience. Reading your post really got me interested in these Czech Models so I thought I would give one a try. The shrike that I bought has tons of resin. The entire engine ( radial ) is in resin and has to be entirely assembled right down to the resin pushrods! I’m really learning a lot from your build. Thank you for sharing.

Hey Zip, did ya check out the resin when ya got that baby home? Or, did the LHS let ya open it up first? Just curious as to the condition they’re in. Seein’ how bud got a lemon[;)]
I got a reply back from Squadron straight away regarding the 2 kits with mis-cast resin pieces and they will send me the resin for the 2 kits ASAP.
These kits will also be my 1st experience with resin. Have got a razor saw and a few other bits on order… just have to re-borrow dads respirator again now.
No way buddy I wasn’t leaving until I took a look inside![(-D] Wow this kit looks awesome! Can’t wait to see somemore of Bud’s. This resin stuf looks pretty cool.

Normally when I work with resin, I wear one of those funny “Hospital” masks since i had access to them all the time (thanks to my G.F.) and I haven’t had any problems since I do keep the resin wet while sanding
Hay Zip. this is a cool kit and so for a good build. The resin parts are a 1st for me and PLEASE wear something over your face. I am using a Jeweler’s Saw and WOW there is a LOT of dust that comes off resin parts… The saw cuts the resin GOOD. I like it. As you know resin parts have a LOT MORE DETAIL but on the other hand it might be hard for someone to paint. As in the Seat I am going to be painting today. All the belts and odds and ends are all one piece with the seat so that will make it somewhat hard to paint. I will let y’ll know how it gos today.
I had to look up the Curtiss A-12 Shrike you got , WOW cool looking. Blue and Yellow. That should come out SWEET ! Can’t wait to see it when you start.

I have read some of you use razor saw’s and other things to cut the blocks off the resin parts. Now for some of you that have not worked with resin before. It can and WILL crack and break so look out for that. I use a Jeweler’s Saw The blades are VERY thin so it for happen to slip or move the blade it wont crack the resin part. Just my [2c]

And I got all the blades for it too. I was told that they can snap. I just started using it on the resin and so for so good.

Just somemore info.
I just hold the resin part and saw it. I don’t clamp it down or anything. When I get half way threw it I turn it around and start on the other side. This way you wont get cut [:D]
Make shore you wash it and maybe rub it down with Alochol before you paint the resin parts.
Some people and I said before that it might be a good idea to run it under water and saw/sand it. That is good and there was a LOT of dust and i did not want it all in my house, so I went out side with a fase mask and used the saw.

I am going to be using Super Glue on the resin parts. I wanted to know it that’s good or should I use something else ?
When I sprayed Painted the resin parts, I saw that the paint did not go on thick and I did not want to keep spraying and spraying so what I did was sprayed the back of the part and WOW looks good now.

Super glue is good to use on resin. Just don’t let it get on your fingers[;)]
As for painting, do it in thin coats and build it up. Some people like to primer the resin first as it gives something or the paint to stick to. In other words Bud, take your time & don’t rush it[:D]

Also, I prime my resin parts. Just a coat of some model master light gray thinned with lacquer thinner works well for me. It seems to bite into the resin a little bit and also provides a good surface to lay paint on later. On my interior parts I use model master interior green cut with mineral spirits. It takes longer to dry than lacquer thinner, but it provides a nice smooth coat.
[#ditto] on the " thin coats and build it up " I do do that but it was not looking good with the resin. I think it was way to thin. But it look good to me now.
I was thinking and thinking and thinking about if I wanted the landing gear up or down. Well i was looking at the wheel bays and there all warped, even the new one i just got. So landing gear up for me [:D] That’s what I wanted to do any how [:P]

Bud, You silly Goose… I didn’t mean thin the paint[banghead] Thin it to proper consistency & spray it lightly over the parts. Let that dry for a few minutes then hit it again. Giving it sufficent time to dry between coats as that is what builds up the paint.
Now, are the wheel wells resin or plastic? Post a close up shot so we can see how bad they’re warped… (personally, IHB your mind is warped[swg])
Ed I did not mean thin the paint. I ment thin as in layers of paint LOL [:P]
