Painting: Track Basecoat
Small update today, trying to get some sort of uniform basecoat on the tracks. These hadn’t really been touched since Step #6, and before getting started on this step, their colour generally comprised the TS-3 undercoat, an acrylic sludge wash, a casual blast with our XF-69 NATO Black preshade and then whatever overspray they’ve copped during our camouflage work
We’ve used Tamiya XF-84 Dark Iron, applied carefully by brush to try to achieve the best coverage and minimise spatter. We thinned at a 1:1 ratio to ensure recesses received paint and the Dark Yellow basecoat was suitably drowned. Good coverage with this colour will be essential so we have a strong base to work from with any ground or rust effects
@Samphoto … Thankyou for your kind words! I’ve been looking at various techniques such as applying a filter to better tie the tri-colour camo together and soften the harder edges but there’s not much consensus out there as to the best means to achieve it. Some have recommended a dot filter, while others use a subtle enamel wash.
