Build Log: Panther Ausf. G Late Prod. - 1/35 Das Werk (Takom)

Hey guys, I wanted to share my second build with you.
It’s already some time ago that I finished it, but luckily I’ve taken a lot of pictures during the process.
The base model was pretty easy to build and I did not add any third party parts this time apart from 3d printed tracks.

Ohne Titel

Next up was the base coat and I decided to go for a very late war Gruppe Müncheberg inspired camo scheme. Contrary to my regular workflow I started with a basecoat of Olivgrün, which I quite licked to be honest.

After letting the paint dry for a few days I started masking for the next batch of paint, being Dunkelgelb. I should have masked of a few more spots to be more “accurate”, but I wanted to show of more of the green, since I quite liked the look.

The next step was Rotbraun, so I masked of a more or less thin part of the Dunkelgelb.

That’s what the Panther looked like after removing the tape, touching up some bad areas, applying a pin wash with thinned acrylics by airbrush and finally added the decals and a coat of satin finish varnish.

Next up I tried the planned weathering on the road wheels and started the slight chipping all over the tank. My plan was making this Panther look quite dusty as imagined it breaking out during the battle of Berlin. The chipping was kept to a moderate level, since this tank would’ve been probably only a few days in battle after leaving the factory (at least in my imagination).

And painting some details.

Then finally I went crazy with the dust weathering. Was maybe a bit much but I liked it

A bit later I decided that a nice figure might be a good addition to the tank, so I went through my stash and found this nice tank commander from Alpine Models.

And this is the final result. I might add a vignette or diorama base in the future, but currently I’m occupied with a few other projects so therefore this will have to wait. Additionally my display cabinet is already getting cramped, so…

Hope you enjoyed this short build log
If you are interested in how I painted the figure, you can watch the two videos I uploaded to YouTube showcasing how I painted the face and the camo jacket. I won’t post them here, since I don’t want to self-promote, but you can find me there under the name “superflowuspaints” there.

Very nice mate! After late-1944 as it became clear the war was becoming a defensive one for the Germans, they actually switched tfrom the Dunkelgelb (Dark Yellow) to an Olivgrun basecoat so there’s quite a lot of historical provenance to your underlying colour choice!

Have you used weathering powders for your dusty look or a white dot filter? Looks very effective either way. I’ll definitely be coming back for some inspiration on a current project…

Thx mate, appreciate it. I’ve used a washable acrylic paint sprayed on with the airbush and then I used a comb brush and regular round one to create the desired effects with just water. The washable dust was also from the ATOM paint range by AMMO.

That dust effect is next-level. Awesome Panther!

Very nice. I think that this best dusty tank model I have ever seen. What sources did you use for the paint scheme?

 :star_struck: Holy Super Caramba!!! That’s a build indeed! I tip my hat to you superFLOWus. Excellent job and gave me also a few ideas for my next builds indeed, but I doubt that mine will be as well done as yours. Still, a try is always worth it. Very great paint job and I do not think you did too much weathering on it. IMO just the right amount. I will wait until you will set it in “motion” with the inclusion in a diorama though. I suspect it will indeed be a work of art and love. Until then, be well and do what you do best… and that’s to say very little about your skills.

Thank you very much for you kind words! I appreciate all your comments!

@PhantomFixer I used the paint schemes included in the box and a few pictures of Division Müncheberg tanks.

@Cbowling Thank you! Glad that you like it!

@Crazy-Creator-5601 Holy Super Thank You

Truth be told, your nice comment hit home - it genuinely matters. Seeing the project get you thinking? That stands out as about the finest feedback anyone could offer. Lately feedback has been a mixed bag for me, so it means really a lot.
Your next project might surprise you. What matters is giving it a go.
Fine knowing the weathering turned out just right - too much has been on my mind lately.
Up next, the diorama will happen, one way or another. Whether it holds up remains to be seen.

Thanks again for the encouragement!

No need to thank me, after all… aren’t we all on the very same sinking boat? Or Yellow Submarine? Whatever sinks first? :joy:
Just kidding. But a hearty laughter is always the best to begin with more serious work. Again, I’ll be waiting, but without holding my breath…

Very nice work, the commander looks great in it. With or without a diorama, your Panther looks good.

Thank you! Figures always add the little something extra for me.

Now that is a good looking Panther. Exceptional figure painting skills and thanks for the heads up about Alpine figures. I may have to give these a gander.

I just got through with an Ausf. G Panther myself so I’ve got an eye for these now…especially ones that are done up this good.
