Best glue for attaching a small velcro strip to canvas

My son wants to add a velcro strip 3"X2" to his cooler that is made of a canvas type material on the outside and plastic on the inside and cannot be sewn on. I was thinking of some type of fabric glue will do the trick?

CA or some kind of super glue ??

Don’t think CA will work bonding fabric to fabric.

3M 1300L contact adhesive. We use that for bonding Velcro to the under-sides of carpeting in some of our older aircraft where the Velcro strips are finally starting to separate from the carpeting. You just put a thin layer on both pieces, wait about 5 minutes, and then press them together.

I all look into that one Eagle. [Y]

Might check with a local fabric store for recommendations, if you can’t source a small enough quantity of the 3M.

Interesting how weird this system is. I used the quote feature in GH post and got that. Yesterday the site was kicking me out when I changed pages.

Lol, keeps us awake and on our toes.

Most fabric stores have velcro strips in various widths that already have adhesive backing. I’m assuming he wants to put patches on his cooler cover for decoration . . .

Oops, dup!

That’s exactly what he wants to do. He has a subdued US flag and wants to attach to his work cooler.

Found it a couple of miles down the road. Had no clue this was available. Will be getting it tomorrow so thanks!

Just keep in mind that the adhesive on the self-adhesive Velcro is like any other self-adhesive product, in that it requires a smooth, clean surface to bond to.

This one says for fabric application:

Cool! Hadn’t seen that kind yet. Hope it works for you. The self-adhesive stuff I have used so far often has the problem of the Velcro being stronger than the self-adhesive. That was a long time ago though.

This is a good use for white glue (Elmers, etc). White glue works well on porous surfaces.

Thanks Don, that’s another possibility. Was thinking of using Aleene’s white tacky glue which is pretty good too. Thanks all for the suggestions.

My wife is a seamstress and makes slipcovers, draperies, pillow covers, boat covers and almost anything else you can think of. She uses all kinds of velcro on all kinds of material. There is a small shelf next to her workbench with all different types of Aleene’s glues. I sneak down and steal some in a small jar for mounting canopies and installing windows and portholes.

Stay Safe.

white glue most likely will come apart if it gets wet unless is exterior glue. could try exterior use carpenter’s glue.
