This is my new modeling workspace. I rent a little commercial space a mile from my house. Since my office is in the house, I like to be able to get away for model building and other artsy-craftsy stuff. Some of those kits on the top shelf have been in my “inventory” for 30-35 years!
I’ve just set this workspace up in the last week or so. There are a few changes and additions that I’ll be making over time. I’m going to take the regulator and gauge off the little compressor, and plumb directly to the regulator/moisture trap at the airbrush holder. The airbrushes all have the Iwata quick-disconnects so I just need one hose. There’s one of those fold-up spray booths on the half-shelf that I can just move to the main deck for major painting.
I’ve got a semi-retired Micro$oft Surface Pro and printer there. I just use my Google Fi data when I’m in the shop. No point paying $50+/month for InTarWebz when I’m only there a few hours a week. (Note to self: order printer ink.)
I’ve got a bunch of other odds & ends that I want to store on the half-shelf under the bench. I’m also going to add another 4’ LED light above the workspace. One can never have too much ammo, fuel, altitude or light.
I’m working on the ancient MPC/Airfix U-2 that I have moved 9 times in 35 years. Gotta let that plastic age properly, like a fine wine, right? I remember paying $4.99 for the kit in 1983-ish. Today, I ordered 1.21 gigabucks of decals and reference materials. Go figure.
Heh… It was a little grungy by the time I left yesterday. [:$]
Actually, I have Tom Sachs’ “Ten Bullets” written on the whiteboard (out of frame). There’s a Ten Bullets sticker on the home-gamer red toolbox. Ten Bullets has revolutionized my work habits.
Thats it for now, nothing,no work space. But the good news is that we are building a new place, should be ready by May.It will have an unfinished basement where I will set up shop.Hopefully in time I can finish it off.But I will be happy with any space
Timmy, Bolt, y’all aint right LOL. IF. I could post pix at this moment I would show ya what a real work space looks like.
Imagine a place were time and space collide…plastic becomes one with the table…a 6ft by 3ft table chocked full of paint, tools, bits and pieces EVERYWHERE, and my pudgy fingers attempting to build something…in a twelve by twelve inch corner. It’s all good.
I actually have a 4 drawer file cabinet, just for that purpose… unfortunatly, I can’t find all my decal’s at the moment. so the file cabinet is full of junk.
Msg recieved LT, kinda got a plate full right now. Tell ya what though it sure koos good in green and grey. I totally don’t feel pressure and yes I need to get it finished.
YES “The Assembly Zone” EXACTLY what I wanted to say…you sure we weren’t seperated at birth LOL.
Here’s my set up. This is the third time I moved my mancave, each time to a bigger room. This is the best one I’ve had located at the end of the house.
My bench is a drawing desk from Ikea which is perfect. The metal cabinet is also from Ikea and holds supplies , paints and tools. The stackable plastic storage also holds more supplies and resin am sets.
Angled to the right of the metal and plastic storage I have more small drawers holding paints, tools and assorted building supplies.
This is my my large display cabinet I got for $200 from an antique store going OOB a while back. To the left are the drawers I previously described and more drawers on the left side. All these drawers cost me nothing thanks to neighbors giving these away so I grabbed them. I have another in the garage for my wood tools.
then on the back wall I have an Ikea display cabinet.
and another on the right side of my book case.
My stash in the mancave closet
overflow into the wive’s office closet by the front of the house
more models in the garage corner storage section
For painting I use a folding table set up in the garage, open the door and set the fan on high and just paint away.
Once in a while a Florida Sand Crane or two venture into the garage to leisurely check things out like inspectors. One time I was in my garage with both doors open draining the oil in my Tundra when I looked off to the side and saw two pairs of skinny bird feet standing 2-3 feet from me. These two lads were about 3-4 ft tall and waltzed into the garage watching me work. After a while they casully strolled out and left.
These birds are very friendly and visit now and then.
Here’s how it started out exactly 1 yr. and 5 days ago when we moved in to our new home. This is my 12 x 18 loft with some ofthe “Stuff” moved in but not sorted out.
Here’s what it looks like now. The boat on the bench is being built for a half wall that we have in the living room. Aready have my avatar, “The Irish Maid” on the mantle in the living room.
