Battle of Britain 85th anniversary 2025-2026

Something makes me think you are in Texas. Forgive me if I am thinking of another user. But I store all of my unbuilt kits in my garage here in Katy (west of Houston). I’ve never had any issues with any kits stored in this fashion. Now I do remove the instructions and decals to store those in binders inside my air conditioned house.

@NucMedTech Got you down for the Bf-110

That’s an awesome kit, Jeeves! Fit is pretty good and even with all the glass up front it’s not an issue. It was a fun build.

Here is mine:

Best of luck with your build

Cheers,
Freddie

@Aggieman, yep, I am here in temple. I usually do not have a problem with plastic, but some of my resin kits get a wave going through them. Especially flat pieces.

Thanks Freddie…I’m near the point of closing up the fuselage…here’s hoping everything closes up well.

I got the Dornier primed using Mr. Surfacer 1000, which revealed a bunch of seams that need to be addressed. I’ll take care of those tomorrow, then begins the paint stage.

Thanks for looking!

Looking good. I have an old baby blue box of this one in the stash.

@GAF and @Frozin you guys are cruising right along.

I’m making myself finish my armored car build before I kick off the Hurricane. I also have a box of aftermarket goodies on the way from Super Hobby in Poland that I need to wait for.

Got my kit and aftermarket goodies, but I leave tomorrow early for Sun ‘n’ Fun! Also, I’m committed to finishing my Ki-61 first, so that’s going to push my start for this a little bit. Next weekend I’m actually in town is in 2.5 weeks, so I hope to wrap up the Tony then and maybe open/start the Hurricane while paint dries on the Tony. I’m out of town the following two weekends, might be May before I get to start, but I’m gonna do, darn it all!

Hobby shop had a Monogram He-111 that I was tempted to pick up for this build. Ended up not getting it since I really don’t have any room for such a large airplane.

I have a model show taking place here in Anniston on the 5th (Saturday). I hope to pick up a few things and look for a specific kit for this GB. Keeping my fingers (and toes) crossed!

The Dornier is coming along. I’ve filled and sanded the seams, primed it again and then laid down the underside paint. I hope the top part goes down as smoothly. Lots of masking ahead.

I’ve decided to build her landing gear down, so I’ll have to decide what color the landing gear will be (aluminum lacquer or RLM 02).

Gary, I have this old Monogram kit plus the newer ICM kit in my stash. The instructions for the ICM call for RLM02 for the struts, but from what I’ve read about the Dornier, the strut colors could vary.

Well I’m going to go pick up the Monogram He-111 at the hobby shop today. No idea where I am going to put it maybe the ceiling.

@Aggieman thanks! I think I’ll go with RLM 02. Seems a safe enough color as it’s called out in several sources. Meanwhile, I’ve begun masking for the upper parts and a coating of light green (Luftwaffe). Might take me a couple of days to do a thorough job. Saturday is, of course, the model show.

I did that defiant kit a couple years back. Nice kit.

Things are moving along. I managed to mask the lower portion (somewhat) and sprayed the light green (which doesn’t look very light to me). Now all I have to do is mask off for the dark green, straighten some demarcation lines and finish her up. This is not as straight-forward as it sounds. Still a lot of things to do, and the decals are too old and need work. I’ve got my work cut out for me!

The Dornier is up on her wheels and work is progressing on painting. I need to do touch-up on the demarcation lines and camo, which have been troublesome. The Schwarzgrun RLM 70 (ModelMaster) was so light against the Luftwaffe Light Green (Tamiya) I had to make my own for it to show up. I think I’ve got it now. You can tell each apart!

Not even close to finished, but I’m making steady progress.

Interior painting going well-- and the kit decals seem to work for the panel…

Some aftermarket stuff came in today for the Spitfire and He-111, but mostly for the He-111.

The formation bars are PINK? Huh, who knew? Anyone know anything about that?

My eyes are getting worse with age. Those MG-15s look absolutely tiny!

Oops, have I inadvertently gotten myself into doing the He-111 for the GB? Let me do the Spitfire first…
