Backwards Build...

Hey there…

Awasoda and the armor boys have been starting to set up an interesting build where they build planes and we build armor…and I’ve been asked to coordinate the flyboy side of things… if anything else, it’s an excuse to go buy another kit, right? Preliminary start date is possibly July, and I’ve been asked to get a list as to who of us are interested… I am unsure of what I will build, but am inclined towards a Sherman or Churchill… here are the preliminary guidelines:

Ok i have come up with some approximate guidelines. Let me know what you think, this is my first time leading a group build.

Date still pending, later july early august?

  1. People in the armor forum build a/c, while people in the a/c forum build armor. This can be anything from a tank to a half track to an armor car, however I would rather not see so many kubels or jeeps just because i think you would have more fun with the previous.
  2. After market stuff is fine, however not mandatory.
  3. NO diorama’s, not that i have anything against them but I would not want the actual model looked over by awesome landscape, however a display base is fine, you may put the a/c on a tarmac and the armor on ground, just not with a lot of action. (IF this causes any problems we will discuss it.)
  4. Trash talking…is awesome but please keep it clean and dont make anyone cry.
  5. Please note this rule has changed, we may ask for help from the other forums
  6. Have fun

Any sugestions are welcome, and i will need help making a badge and hosting pictures.
Thank you, and let me know what you think.

I’m in too, though the one that I have picked out may have to run by the armor boys eyes before they call it “legal”…it’s a Tamiya 1/35 Ford G.P.A. Jeep Amphibian…not sure if that qualifies or not…if it doesn’t I’ll go pick something up to cover the bases…looking forward to building this bad boy, and participating in this exciting GB!!!

damn…just read the rules again where you said no “jeeps”…hmmmm maybe I’ll have to pick another item…here’s the pick…what do ya think boys???

Looks armored to me… but maybe post this in the “Plane Build” thread in armor to double check??

Good idea Mike!!! I posted it on there!! Now, I’ll just cross my fingers…LOL

Well I posted it there, and they promptly ignored me…LOL I’ll have to get their attention back to the matter at hand somehow.

Phew… when I read backwards built I thought of completing missing parts from the gaps left in the model, I built a landing gear, struts, wheels, and an tailplane once from technical plans and my eyes exploded. MIND YOU THE KIT WORTH 3,99 …But I was pissed with myself when I threw the parts away in order to clear the table. I t was a matter of pride to make them by myself.

Got to admit my armouyr skills are totally crap…Especialy at the tracks.

Heath-- you’ve been OK’ed for your amphibious jeep…although also challenged by frostygirl to do something more challenging [;)]

OK, you build a Jeep, I’ll build a V-1. LOL Come on and take a chance. [:D] I have a nice Nakajima Night Fighter Gekko waiting for this. Can’t wait to
try something new. Bill

Don’t worry buddy, Frosty jabbed me enough!!! LOL I put the idea out there, 'cause I am lost when it comes to armor, and thought that since I already had it in my stash, perhaps it would count towards the build…I haven’t even opened the kit yet, so it’s not something I have seen to tell wether it is an easy build or not, which is why I asked. Of course I don’t want something too easy…which is why I made an offer to Frosty…We’ll see if she bites or not…LOL

heath you may be suprised at the response. hehehehe

joe

Hey, fellas… I just might get in on this too! I have a 1/35 Academy early tiger lying about the house somewhere… Of course, i need to find it; it’s buried under all my a/c kits… [:D]

What ever do you mean Joe?! Should I be worried?! I swear it was a very polite offer…

heath im just saying you could be suprised. hehehehe. oh wait too much time spent on the darkside.

joe

Count me in.

I’ve just read Steel Rain, an account of the Waffen SS campaigns in the West through 44 & 45.

I feel some 1/72 armour coming on.

What’s the end date for this?

Karl

If it fits with the sceme of things, count me in with an M-1025 (Armored HUMVEE)

Hee Hee, no dioramas, so much for the tank that was recently blasted by a low flying P-39 or A-10.[:D]

I really would like to try one again, maybe if I can get done with the AM build in time. I’ve been partial to either a Stuart or Bulldog. Or maybee the Makava(sp) or Churchill.
Scott

OK guys, I’ll add you [:)]

KJ200-- I don’t even think a definite start date has been ironed out, so no clue yet as to end date. What did you have in mind to build?

Awood23-- well- if Heath got OK’ed for the Dodge, I imagine you’d be alright with the M-1025, although expect some ribbing by the armor guys for not doing a tank [;)]

scottrc-- Shall I put you down for all of them? LOL

kik36:
i wasn’t jabbing, really… i actually think the GPA is fine 4 ur build
(even tho’ jeeps, GPAs,DUKWs, HUMVEEs & the like r usually not
armored, they’re called ‘soft skinned’ vehicles as a result [:D]
but they still get posted 2 the armor forum, not auto, LOL)
i just didn’t want u 2 miss the fun of building a filthy clanking thing
that belches diesel fumes while heading down the road at 30 mph
crushing everything in its path or blowing it up w/ a big ol’ gun, LOL !
[;)][:D]
the great thing about armor modeling is that it can b very forgiving of mistakes
(see “battle damage”, “stowage”, “tarps” & "mud’ as ways of hiding flaws),
& so it mite b a nice break from the perfection of build & finish required by
the wingy things (something i am learning a little bit about l8ly…[;)])
i do prefer the smaller scales myself, & 1/72 is common 2 both armor & a/c
w/ a pretty good selection of kits… Paul Boyer does a killer job w/
1/72 a/c, his work is really inspiring !
2 quote: “Judge me by my size, do u ?” [;)]

now that i’ve said all that…
i’m willing 2 try 2 build a 1/48 plane…
i have a Tamiya P-51 just waiting in the box, rite, Jeeves ?
or would u guys like 2 suggest something?
(just no ww1 a/c rite now, i don’t think i’m ready 4 that kind of insanity, LOL)

my suggestions in 1/35 armor:
Tamiya T-34 (featured in FSM article “Build a tank in a weekend”)
Tamiya Walker Bulldog (always mentioned in armor forum as good first armor build)
Tamiya M3 Stuart (a fun build, i’m doing one myself rite now)
if u want 2 put those airbrushing skills 2 work,
Tamiya StuG iii has great potential 4 wonderful camo schemes,
new Tamiya Panther G is in latest Squadron mailer at $34.99 (down from $68.00)
& has Eduard p/e included…
T-34 & Panther both have sleek look 2 them & both r considered among the better
tanx of ww2…
HTH,

frosty[:)]
