If any of you need some pics of a certain armored vehicle just let me know. I pass the the U.S. Army Ordnance Museum everyday after work and I only live ten minutes away from it. I would get in this build to but due to the lack of time and the current turtle pace of my builds now I dont know when I would be able to start.
Whoa! Shouldn’t that be “maniacal cackle” rather than “LOL”? I think we need to work out some rage issues, Frosty! [:D]
WWI A/C is a tough subject… though there are some attractive WWI kits out there. Dragon had a couple in 1/48 that came with a PE set and a resin bust of the pilot… I’d stick to your mustang, so you don’t go pulling your hair out when some missle falls off for no reason, and there isn’t much masking to be done.
NO WAY. This was the first tank i ever built back in grade school! I just picked it off the shelf becuase it looked the most “tank-like”… unfortunately (or should i say fortunately), i didn’t get the seduced by the “dark side” hehehe… [:D]
Seriously Frosty, I know you were joking. I truly appreciate your suggestions and will be getting back to everyone in a day or two as to what I will pick for the final deal…though the Tamiya Panther sounds like a steal!!! As for the P-51, I think that is a pretty safe project, with numerous reference sources, and will not cause you to curse everyone in the A/C forums!!! LOL I’m off to the web to hunt down my final decision…
this is shaping up to be a good build. lots of participation. and the best thing more friends will be made. awesome.
joe
Jeeves, possible subjects are as follows:
Panther
Tiger I
Stug III
Panzer IV ausf H
Cromwell
Churchill
Sherman Firefly
Probably two of the above in 1/72, maybe one Allied, the other German, and possibly the Academy Jeep that I have in my spares box.
Karl
Damn…why are we having so many problems with the forum lately?! I posted a decent post, and an error occured, and then it erased what I typed…
Anyway last night I ordered the Tamiya Panther G early version with the Eduard PE for only $35.00 from Squadron and should be here in a couple of days…so I’d like to change my build to that please…I also ordered a Trumpeter Panther II Mine Clearing Tank for $22.00…Hey don’t look at me like that guys, the thing is way cool!!! It was on the same page in the Squadron flyer…THANKS FROSTY!!! I never make it past the A/C pages normally!! Can’t wait to start…well maybe I can wait till I get it first!!! LOL [:P][;)][:D]
Frosty,
I think the reason you dont see many Humvee’s or 5ton TRK’s in the car forum is…
A:. many of these vehicle to some degree do have armor. Nothing that would stop something larger than a .50cal but most forms of small arms and even mine strikes
B:. when you say HUMVEE most people think army not hotrod, army goes with armor where as hotrod goes with auto
and C: Its rare to see a .50cal or MK-19 mounted on top of a firebird or Camero. (notice I said rare, Im sure some redneck from Alabama has tried it [:D] )
I know that if I wanted to see some kind land based Military Vehicle Id look in the armor forum.
Although I really want to do a HUMVEE, (its my primary Vehicle and I have the best reference source around[:)] ) I also want to do an M2 Bradley. If the store here still has the kit maybe I’ll try and get my hands on it. That should help put in in the good graces of the Dark Side [:)]
ps I hope I havent offended any redneck [:-^]
folks building armor really doesnt hurt, anything but your pride. hehehehehe. going to be a fun time.
joe
This coming from an A/C guy.[:D][:D][:D][:D]
Well, well I am thinking of doing either an F-14 or A-10 on this one. My scale would be 1/72 and planning to paint it in an outrageous scheme. Hmmm I am worried about coming into the light again. I might get sunburned.[:D]
Yeah my pride is aching already and I haven’t even picked an armour kit up yet!!![;)]
Still building kits in the dark will be a new experience!
Karl
Well ok I am going to bite on this one. Since I really have been wanting to build my DML Panther A late and this just might be what I need to get me back to building the models that I am working on. So count me in.
Woohoo!! Won myself an early Tamiya Sherman yesterday on ebay…so that’s my offering to this build…
Heath-- I’ll change it right up. Shall I add both kits to your name or just the Tamiya Panther?
falcon-- glad to have you with us!
shrikes:
nah… i just have a vivid imagination is all…[:D]
gotta live up 2 the ‘dark side’ rep, too…[}:)][;)][:D]
Jeeves:
congrats on the e-bay score !
if u have any questions whatsoever about the Sherman & its many variants,
Shermanfreak will most likely know the answer, so don’t hesitate 2 post in the armor forum… also, in his sig is a link 2 the Sherman Family Group Build site, many great Sherman builds 2 b seen there !
kik36:
good choices IMHO !
i personally think the Panther is the best looking tank of WW2,
altho’ the form-follows-function austere beauty of the T-34
(which inspired the design of the Panther, BTW) comes in a close second.
& i love those engineering/recovery vechicles !
the Panther ii is the mine-clearing version of the modern Abrams tank,
in case anyone was thinking Heath had gotten Cat Scratch Fever, LOL !
Awood23:
yep, those bad boys r in the rite place in the armor forum…
i was just joking about the auto postings, 4 sure…
re: mounting a .50 on a Camaro or Firebird… in armorspeak,
that would be called a ‘technical’, i believe…
probably been done already,
if not, maybe an upcoming episode of Monster Garage ?
in Mogadishu, the rebels had a lot of these things rolling around
if Black Hawk Down gets it rite…
no Camaros or Firebirds, tho’ !
apologies if i’m stating the obvious, everybody… [:D]

G’day Jeeves,
You already have my name on the list but I will be doing the M2A2 Bradley for the GB not the Merkava.
Many thanks,
Bob
Just the Panther G for my right this moment Jeeves. I have no idea what I’m getting into, and have we picked any dates yet?! I don’t want to get too over my head!! LOL But I think it will definately be in the near future as a build. Hey Frosty, you just call out the name of the P-51 you’re doing when you’re ready…I’m sure everyone will be throwing references at you!!! Hmmm…now I need to find some Panther references myself…perhaps I’ll give the new reference forum a go.
G’day Jeeves,
For those Armor builders doing the aircraft, for this reverse build I’m willing to help out with any problems that may accur in the project.
Rob.

For any of you not too sure what kits you’re looking for in your LHS[;)]
We know what tanks look like…
…targets!!!
Karl
ok Jeeves… was hoping you could point me in the direction of someone that can give me some advice. I just bought a Bradley M3 for this build but after looking at it I think I bought an RC Model???
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5903536190&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&rd=1
the reason I ask is because it mentions "2 channel RE-14 Motor’??
did I just bite off more than I can chew? get ripped off?
If you know someone that can give me some advice about this Id be grateful
I decided to go with this and get in the “full spirit” of the build rather than play in the grey area of wheeled vehicles
awood i dont know if this helps but i dont think that is an r/c not sure though. just remember to take it slow and you will be fine. if you need help you can always post in the armor forum. they are very kind and generous in their advice. glad to see others leaving the comfort zone. we can have other shoulders to cry on now.
