Hi, Tim here from Port Macquarie in New South Wales. I’ve hit the big 40 but have never let go of the years I spent in 1st Armoured Regiment in my younger days. I loved German Armour then and I still love it now. I recently emailed Mike V (what a great bloke) for assistance in ordering an Omni airbrush from the US. I got the number to call from Mike but I always strike the answering machine. Has anyone ever ordered this way and can you tell me the best time to call. I can’t get my head around the time difference. I must have killed a few brain cells with the 105mm in the Leopard going off. I use to build model tanks and give them to my nephews for display. Now I wish I had kept them all to myself. Just kidding.
in the armour forum tho, there is a towed gun group build which i am hoping to participate in, so depending on what time this group build starts i may/may not be able to complete it in time …
Looks like the best way to go for this is by nominated subject providing that it is and Aussie subject.
Lets hear from all the Aussie modelers out there on this.
When we are ready to go Ill post a new subject directly related to an aussie group build. What I need now is some info on what rules we should have and what period of time should the build be over. etc.
I’m Matt, and I represent Adelaide too.
I model 1/35th WW2 armour mostly with a few others thrown in.
I have just come back to the hobby after 6 years in the wilderness.
As an aside, do any of you Aussies know where to get the resin and silicone etc for home resin casting. I need to do some but have no idea where to find the stuff!
G’day from Bathurst, NSW. I am actually from the US but can now call Australia home. I have been living here since 1998 and really love it. I loved California as well, but my wife wasn’t there, so I am here now. I lived in Sydney for 3 years and was a member of IPMS and APMA until we moved out West to Bathurst. Bathurst has a great life style, but there isn’t much going on with modelling. I would love to open up a hobby shop if I had the funding. 40,000 people living here and another 40,000 in Orange, and there isn’t a decent hobby shop around. The closest would be more then 2 hours away. If you guys have a chance visit my web site.
I would like the oportunity to build a Lancaster (G-George?) because I like them and so dose my wife!! Vampire would be great too. As would be AE2. If the call is for a tank then I would pump for a Mattilda.
I think that the model should be historicaly accurate and maby a bit of a chalange. Try converting one of the airfix Dragoons ,or similar, to a Light Horseman!

Hey Fellas,
I’d like to build a P51 from No.3 Squadron, Italy 1945. Just started to gather info. Apparently Tamiya’s Korean War Mustang is the most ideal kit to represent one of our P51’s from this period (uncuffed prop etc.). I just got an RAAF Mustang reference book from Red Roo Models and have started to look for suitable decals (which they also have). I just have to finish my P47 first (probably 3 more weeks left).
OK just to be different as all Kiwis are I’ll go for an Aussie Touring Car with a New Zealand connection - Denny Hulme’s Martin Filters/Bob Jane T-mart AMG Mercedes 190 from the 1986 Bathurst 1000 although I probably won’t start it until about May, all things being equal.
It will probably be South Aussie (our 1st XVII Capt - cos he started this post) to ask for a new “sticky” post for our group build, and it should be done here, rather than a specific model forum.

Thanks Luke[(-D]( your are now vice captain), Ill follow this up. I agree with your comment that the post should be in this folder due to the range of models that are likely to be built.
As for the rules I will prepare a post with them listed for approval of all that will take part. Once this is done Ill follow up on the sticky note request.
Can’t say I did. The one weekend and have with no work, and my girlfriend was away, and it is 43 and 42. I even went to Bunnings, and picked up a compressor and a moisture trap for my airbrush, ($120!!??!!) and couldn’t use it! Tried it out and just sprayed water all over my face! And we lost the cricket.
Back to the subject though, my folks are sending me all the details they can find on the service of my two Grandfathers. One was in the Lighthorse in WW1, while the other served with the RAAF in Darwin in WW2. I am hoping to do something on both for the group build, and give the results to Mum and Dad, as both Grandies are deceased, and I never met either.
I may need help though, as I am an armour modeller; not a lot possible there!
Hi, Tweety1, there are now 17 of us that don’t mind be identified. Nothing wrong with Alice Springs, well I was glad to see it when I drove down form Darwin in 1983.
Im sure no one will mind checking prices for you all you have to do is ask.
Matt, I though I had a bad weekend, the airconditiononer failed on Sunday morning, couldn’t do any modelling due to the heat. I am sure that you will receive all the help you need all you got to do is ask.
