Aussie Modellers

Hi Gents,
I’m the one Pete is talking about! No I havent left the forum. Just not sticking my neck out as much. Got loped rather badly the other day!!
I live in Hazlebrook in the Blue Mountains and model anything that takes my eye. Except cars and trucks although i do have a couple of diecast ones,05 Comodores and Monaros.
I get down to AYCB on a regular basis to visit the AWM and my children.
By my name you can tell that l come from Wales, looking at me you can see that I dont come from sardines!
I have been modelling for more years than I care to admit and have four model on the go at the moment. Amiot 143, Whitley, 1/12 Airfix Bengal Lancer and a scratch built SMS Thuringan Battle ship from WW1.
I’ve waffled on enough for now,
Dai

Hi Dai,
Your reply makes it 11, and I still think there are more out there somewhere, lets hear from you missing Aussies.

Dai you live in a nice area, spent time based at RAAF Glenbrook and really enjoyed the mountain area, only problem was the lack of good modelling shops.

Know how you feel about getting your head loped off, happen to me on another site, tends to make you keep your head down for awhile.

just keepin this post active so any aussies passing thru can add their names - cos I know of at least 3 others - not goin to dob them in cos they can speak for themselves!

what bout doing an aussie grp build - wat u guys think of that??

Hi my name is Brian pom by birth aussie by choice live in adelaide back in modelling after twenty years or more figure modelling mostly . Brian

Would an Aussie tourist count?
I see some of you are from Brisbane. My sister and her husband will be spending three weeks at a condo in Noosa in February, and they’ll be travelling to Brisbane from time to time, but don’t really know much about the area.

My Email is in my profile if any one would care to recommend any attractions in the area. He is into model trains in a big way, and she likes crafts and that sort of thing.

Thanks in advance,
Bruce

Like you luke I know of at three others, just hoping that they just might come out of the woodwork, but thats up to them.

Like your idea of a Aussie group build, this is one of the reasons why I started this thread to see how many of us there were and whether it would be worth while trying to arrange something like a group build etc.

gandolf;

Nice to hear from another modeller in the Adeliade area, Im out in the northern suburbs.

Your reply makes 12 of us so far.

which forum would we put it in?

Two things.
If we have a group build I would like to see an Australian subject be it Navy Army or Airforce.
Now a date for your diaries.
On the 22/23 May the Rotary Club of Central Blue Mountains are holding a Hobby and Craft Fair in the Comunity Centre at Lawson. All hobbiests are welcome. Also there will be a Junior Modelling Competion. Two sections:- 12yrs and under and 16yrs and under.
For more information contact me via the forum or at daimargs@optusnet.com
If the dates seem to be a little out should be a Fri/Sat I will correct them soonest.
Dai

Dai,
I think your idea that the proposed group build be based on a Aussie subject is a good one, it would probably have to be[:(] an aircraft (to many years in the RAAF)[:(] due to availability of kits of Australian outline.

Glad to see that someone is catering for junior modellers, there should be more of it. [:(]I will miss your fair by a weekend[:(], will be in Penrith the following weekend

Just a little correction my email is daimargs@optusnet.com.au

Hey guys,

i like the idea of having an aussie group build, i am just about to start a Leopard AS1, but will put it off until we know what we will be building

for the armours fans, i have 2 websites you might want to look at …

http://www.mheaust.com.au/ - then click on ‘Go To Catalogue’

the site looks kind of primitive, but its honest, i have ordered the Leopard AS1 conversion set from there - most of these products are made by people in thier spare time, some resin parts may need to be touched up, but otherwise i found their products reasonably good

secondly,

http://anzacsteel.hobbyvista.com/armourframe.htm - this is a website providing pictures and information on tanks used mainly by australia, nz and britain (AWSOME site for the Leopard AS1)

both websites seem to go down from time to time, so if they don’t work, try again later

also, be sure to check out the defence websites, they have many pictures of modern stuff and even some videos and wallpapers for the hardcore enthusiest - the navy website has scale models for many ships/corvettes/subs/mine hunters used by the navy over the years …

laters

yeah those photos are very good

there is actually a 1/300 adelaide class missile Frigate in kit form made by Lee, it comes with a motor as well. it isn’t what you could call “excellent” quality and doesn’t come with any decals (or mine was missing them … ) the plastic is a bit brittle as well,

i think there is 1/700 adelaide class missile frigate to made by revell … i think, can’t really remember the manufacturer

I wouldn’t bother with the Lee Kit (personally) . . and the 1/700 you speak of is from Dragon, which is actually quite good considering its one of their older ones!

ahh dragon, thats it, i was looking for it but couldn’t find it and ended up getting the Lee one

Happy Aussie Day!

Well, Australia Day is almost over, on the east coast anyhow, and my wife and i had a great day. Woke up in the Manly Pacific and saw the sun rise out of the ocean. Not a sight we usualy see. Now I’m sitting in mu office and watching the sun set over the mountains with a cold Crownie in my hand, that’s why the typing is a bit slow, and about to watch the cricket and the tennis.
I would not be anywhere else!!
Advance Aystralia Fair!
Dai

Hi all, I haven’t forgoted this thread, been of line due to a computer problem, a least it wasn’t a virus[censored][censored] computers!!!

A belated Australia Day to all Ausssie on this site.

Dai, Know what is like living up in the mountains couldn’t even see the sea from the top of the mircowave tower at RAAF Glenbrook, at least the sunsets can be beautiful, at least here in Adelaide we see the sun rise from the hills and set in the sea.

Now to get back to the proposed group build, with the wide ranging subject matter of the few that have joined this thread, maybee the group build, if we go ahead with it, should be a subject nominated by each modeller with the requirement that it is of an Aussie subject. Waiting to hear from you all.

ok - we each of nominate a model (of any type, scale, era, etc), as long as its of Aussie service.
