Im thinking this could be a good and fun idea. I am a sucker for artillery, so depending on how many responses i get on it id like to start one.
Guidlines: It has to be built by the end of 2005. It starts Now!
-SPG can be built
-AAA can be built
-Towed Guns can be built
-Emplaced Artillary is okay too
-Mortars can be built
-it does not have to be either indirect or direct fire, both can be built.
P.S. - Thanks for the badge John This is what we will use
P.S.S.- You can build TWO or More if you are crazy enough!
No SPGs? That would exclude a whole lot of artillery. But it’s an interesting idea. I do have a kit or two that might be good for this build, but probably wouldn’t be able to commit to anything for a couple of months. There are so many other projects in the waiting.
Agreed, something different would be nice. Towed pieces could be allowes, since they are artillery, but I think it would be a mistake to limit this to ONLY towed pieces, because as Larry said, we’ve been there, done that.
why not. How about all artillary, self propelled, and towed, or emplaced.
You can jump in any time, with any type of artillary made by anybody, and from any era. IT just has to be built by the end of 2005. please submitt any GB badges you guys would like, and what weapon you plan to build.
Great timing! Im getting ready to start a FH-18. Im for it!
As far as what types, all guns are good. SP, towed. Of course, AAA doesnt count as artillery in my book. How about mortars, they are an indirect fire system. Or rockets for that matter.
well as a redleg i really don’t like to admit that MLRS are infact artillery but well they are and i would have to say they should be allowed. as for myself, i think this gives me something different to do than WWII or a M109 Series ( although I do have that M-109 E-4/A1-A4 kit ) so maybe a british variant or a german one or french even? o the possibilities!
just don’t tell my wife , it gives me an excuse to get out and go to one of my favorite shops or all!! ( damn those euros are killing the dollar to!
Propose this definition: purpose-designed & built indirect-fire surface-to-surface weapon. (Exceptions to indirect-fire criteria for Napoleonics, Civil War cannon, but not for someone who found an isolated instance of a Tiger firing up in the air or some such nonsense).
Agree any era, towed, self-propelled, and emplaced.
Artillery rocket systems (Congreve, Katushya, Honest John, MLRS, etc) which fit definition should be included.
Mortars are a quandry - the smaller ones (say 120mm & below) are the infantry’s hip-pocket arty, but not really arty. The larger mortars aren’t functionally much different than large howitzers and should be included.
AAA came up thru the artillery chain, but I do not they should be included (see 1st line above).
What I proposed has been adopted as the rules, it would seem, but three of the five builds proposed to date do not meet those rules - the Pak 40 and 2 Flak-88.
If AAA (the 2 Flak-88) is to be included, then suggest you drop last sentence of the rules re not including AAA, but that still doesn’t resolve the Pak 40, which IIRC is anti-tank & thus direct-fire (as would be the '88’s if built in anyhting other than AAA role) ???
I’m not trying to start an argument, just be sure of where we are going with this …
I read a couple of excerpts that the Germans used 88s in the indirect role. I dont know how true this could be, they have a rather flat trajectory. It was probably due to the range they engaged at.
And Redleg 1-7, I agree with you about the MLRS jockeys. Only grudingly will I admit they are part of the FA.
