Armor Prototypes GB Spring 2007 to Spring 2008

Hello Everyone,

After discussing this in the Armor forums, it seems there would be some interest in a Group Build focusing on armored vehicle designs that never made it off the drawing board or were only produced in small numbers. From a drawing board tank like the Schmall Tiger or Tiger III to vehicles that saw limited combat like the Sturer Emil, or examples that had only non-combat prototypes built, like the Maus or E-100. Feel free to set your chosen vehicle in a diorama portraying it in its intended role, or marked as the vehicle likely would have been had it ever seen service. Try not to be too science fiction-ey, but you can take liberties to build, for example, a Maus with quadruple 88mm FlaK turret. The “rules” would be as follows:

-Any scale

-Any era

-Must be a) a vehicle that was never produced, b) a vehicle that had prototypes built, or c) a vehicle that saw limited combat. For option c, try to keep it to vehicles that were produced in numbers less than 25 and not just weird-looking vehicles that were produced in some numbers like the Marder series or RSO-based AT guns.

-Add any AM you desire or build OOB. Scratchbuild if you want, some examples may require it[sigh]

-We’ll build from now until approximately sometime in spring 2008.

Is there a cutoff date for joining? I’m involved in some other GBs and the rest of my life is pretty busy, so I don’t know if I’ll have time for this until the summer.

Summer is fine, unless you were like planning on a 1/16 scratchbuilt Maus…then you might not have time to finish[;)]

Probably a US pilot tank from WWII, this way I can thin out some of my spare bits.

I’ll be building the Dragon Jagdpanzer IV A-0 training vehicle.

What happened to all the other people?

They are working [;)]

Put me down for the Minemraumer from RPM 1/35

Hey Hermes, cool badge! [:)] What does it depict?

A proposed flamethrower variant of the Soviet T-28 light tank.

Count me in I am working on Emil right now. Just finished the construction and will be building Tiger I early and Krupp Protze that are going to have the same base coat so I will paint the Emil at the same time. Can anyone lead me to more information on the Emil. I don’t know much about it. Unfortunatley their is not much information in the instructions or on the box. I highly recomend this kit from Trumpeter as it falls together quickly and very nicely. Can’t wait to see it finished I will have to look for my digital camera cable to upload the images. Talk to you later.

Trumpeter’s english is horrible, isn’t it? I have the Emil kit as well…

There were only three Sturer Emils made and they all served with PzAbt 521 at Stalingrad. None survived the battle, although one was found afterwards with 28 kill rings on the barrel. Trumpeter’s colors and decal placement instructions are pretty accurate, so you’d be fine to do as their directions indicate…if you can decipher them[;)]

I was thinking of building a T23, but I’m hurting for pictures of the hull. I don’t want to guess at 75% of the detail. Are there any books about the T20 series that anyone knows to exits?

Herme I came across an old FSM with an ad for this kit and it was painted in a two tone Green yellow scheme. I think the box number was the same although the kit did have the same number like I said. Yeah I know what you mean by the LOUSY English. YIKES!!!

Hmm…fanciful artwork I would say. There were only three built and they were all dark grey for certain.

Hi all!, I’d like to join the GB. I’ll be building the 1/72 Dragon Maus.

Well then Gray it is. Thanks Herme. I appreciate it. I will paint the Emil when I paint my Tiger I Initial and my Kropp Protze.

I have the chassis already built and the upper hull assemlbed. The road wheels have been assembled as well as the barrel I just need to sand then I can paint. I will have some photos this coming week. Stay in touch.

Hi - I can probably help out a bit. I have the issue of Panzer Tracks that features several pages devoted to the good ol Stubborn Emil. Some excellent pictures - fresh from the factory floor as well as scenes of them in the field. I built one of these late last year and I agree it nearly fell together by itself. though I had a little problem in the tail end of the vehicle. I’ll scan some of the pages for you if you like. From what I remember, there were only two built, with the one survivor currently on display in a Russian museum.

I still need to apply decals and do some mild weathering & dry brushing.

Larry

The first two images are of the inside of the Upper hull

These images are of the inside of the hull without the upper hull attached.

These last four images are of the whole assembly minus the tracks.

I have some aftermarket tracks that I need to assemble and install. That is the next step here.

For those of you who have interest in this model, it goes together very well and very quickly. I recomend it to anyone. It has a great theme to it and looks great all built up. Can’t wait to see it once I have painted it.

That looks real good [tup]

I’m anxious to start mine, but I have other projects on the to do list…

What aftermarket tracks you are going with?
