Anyone need pics from the USS Intrepid???

Hey Gang!

I lucked out here on my latest work “mission” and will be working in downtown Manhattan for the next three weeks.
I definitely plan to visit the USS Intrepid museum [:p].

If anyone needs some pictures of aircraft in that museum, or a particular area of one, I would be happy to take them and email them to you.

Don’t know exactly how close I can get to each of them, but I’ll do my best to get you what you need.

Please specify the following:

The aircraft

The area of it you want to see (cockpits are probably out (unless FSM wants to give me a temporary ‘PRESS’ pass [:D] ))

The format of the pic that you prefer (either .jpg or .bmp)

Please email any request to me via the forum or directly at stng955@cs.com

For a list of aircraft go here:
http://www.intrepidmuseum.org/exhibits_a-aircraft.html

You’ll find a pull down menu of aircraft on display.

I’d like some pics of the A-7E Corsair II. Any gear detail shots and wheel well shots, and really, any shots you can get of it. I just picked up the Hasagawa 1/48 of it and plan to build it after I’m done with my spit.

I envy you your trip.

stinger if its not too much trouble… the F-16 they have there, could you get the rear exhaust area, primarily the “turkey feathers” and the area directly in front of the exhaust. I would prefer a jpg.
Thank you and enjoy your trip!

I went there a couple of years ago for the second time. It is a great museum I need some more photos of the Tomcat as I have that one from Hasegawa.

I bought the plane after I went there the second time. I was there many years before.

I have over a couple dozen slides of the planes on board but when I start driving I will have to get back to there and take some more photos.

Man, i LOVE the USS Intrepid! It’s my favorite museum by far (Where else can you find an A-12 on an aircraft carrier deck?!?)… I know that you can get pretty close to the aircraft, for as long as you don’t touch them… And the Growler is definetly worth a visit! It’s only a 15-20 minute tour, but very cool none the less!

It’s been quite a while since i was last there, so i dunno if there is an F-86F on display (the website says there isn’t one)… probably not, but if there is one, some pics of the exhaust (i.e. up the tail pipe), down the intake, the cockpit, airbrakes/landing gear bay would be appreciated! Geez, i miss NY. [:)]

It just occured to me that the modern-day intrepid would make for one interesting build with planes from different eras and squadrons occupying the flightdeck… [:)]

Ok have you four on my list with the details.

Madda - A7E - will get all that I can from what I know I would look for, including your gear and well shots. (We also have an ANG A-7 back in Denver. Don’t know the model #. Will check when I get back.)

AJacket - Know what you mean about the “turkey feathers”. In more detail, are you looking for some comparison on the metallic color variations or the mechanics involved? Will try to get both. When you say “front of exhaust”, what are you looking for? Got you on the JPG.

Jmz66 - Hey Buddy, will get you a general “walkaround”, but if you give me more specifics, I will try for those also. Get your license man, and get out here again!

shrikes - That’s an A-12?? WOW! I only saw it again this morning from the Hudson Parkway and just assumed it was an SR-71. And I know, I LOVE NY CITY!! (My fourth time here in 3 yrs.)
Man, I knew I should have asked this when I was home in Denver. Wings Over The Rockies has an F-86 (don’t know if it’s an F model) that is undergoing a complete restoration, to the point where the fuselage was apart and the engine out. I have some shots down the throat and down the tailpipe from the midsection aft (since it was “broken” in half). I’ll try to find that disk. In the meantime, will get you what I can from the Intrepid. (Wings Over The Rockies is looking for volunteers, maybe I should look into that also [:)]).

I figure I’m here for at least three weeks (or so I’m told, and the project is looking that way), so I should have 2-3 weekends, or minimum of four chances to see the museum. I’ll do everything I can to get you all what you need. (But this time I just have to get my chopper tour in. [:p])

For general knowledge here, I am using a Sony Mavica Digital, which gives excellent results, but I also have my Nikon 35mm film camera, which I can use for even better shots. I will use my best judgment about which to use where. Please keep in mind though that these shots will take a few weeks to arrive, as I just arrived in NY last night, but I will get them out ASAP.

PLEASE leave me your email addresses so I can get them out to you personally. Contact me at stng955@cs.com

Anyone else out there, jump in. I just love a good mission![8D]

Yep, it’s an A-12! Though i don’t think there are any outward differences to differentiate it from an SR-71 except for the fact that the A-12 was a single seater… Even though it said “Do not touch!” i still had to run my hand over a plane that once went mach 3… incredible!

Is the RA-5C a new addition? why is it i can’t remember ever seeing such a beautiful plane?? [:)]

Hey Stinger
I could use some shots of the cobras, a basic walkaround would be good, i would also like a copy of Tomcat pics you take ,jpeg will work, you can mail it here aerosht@yahoo.com or here marlboro@pine-net.com
Thanks a lot
Shawn

hey everyone!!!

I live only an hour and a half from the intrepid, and will be going out there in 2 or 3 weeks …

I too can take close ups of any planes or ships you want… also i have a video camera, so if you have a plane of particular interest in,let me know and i can do a walk around in video and send ya a copy for free!!!

Just e-mail me!!!

I’lllet ya know of the exact date i will be going!!!

I’m not really as plne guy, so beware!! LOL

shrikes - Don’t blame you for wanting to touch it. I’ve seen the ones in Seattle and Logan , Utah.

aeroswat - Gotcha on my list, Buddy.

Ron - That’s cool, man. Maybe you can get the stuff I’ll miss.[^]

Stinger,

If you get a chance, could you get me pictures of the Regulus One missile on the USS Growler. I need nose and tail section photos depicting the decaling. My e-mail is RSaddlemire@sc.rr.com.

Thanks

Speaking of the intrepid, I remember making a model kit of it once when i was around 7 (can’t remember the brand), and messing it up REAL bad (one of my first glue models…)… does any once know if they still make this kit? also, do they make one for the growler? [:)]

You should get extra pics of the A-6F as I think it’s the only one made. Also there is no F-86 but an FJ fury, very rare. Avoid pics of the Helldiver as it’s a mock-up, not a real aircraft.

The fury is a nice looking plane too (they said that it was the basis for the USAF’s F-86)… Also, i think plum1030 is correct in that the A-6F on display is the only one produced… It’s a shame that they scrapped the Intruder airframes (i fell in love with the way they look because of the “flight of the intruder” book and movie). At least you still see it’s cousin the EA-6B still in service. [:)]

You guys won’t BELIEVE what is sitting on a cargo ship docked next to the Intrepid!!!
Here’s a subtle hint from one of my previous posts.

[8D][8D][8D][8D]

Just for fun let’s have some guesses [}:)]

RSaddlemire - I just noticed that Regulus this evening on the way back to my hotel. Gotcha covered on that one, and thanks for the E-address.

Plum1030 - Thanks for the heads up on that info. I put it in my notes.

I think i have it… Are they going to add it to the collection? No way! where are they going to put something that big on deck? Well… they did put an A-12 there, but this is bigger… don’t want to spoil the fun for everyone else, but am i on the right track? You like it better than the Gulfstream GV… right? [;)]

shrikes - all I’m going to say to you right now is…[;)]

stinger, between the iris(turkey feathers[:D]) and the main fuselage… and just the color/appearance of the “feathers”

Have fun!!!

AJacket

Ok.

For the best color reference obtainable, I’ll shoot the pics on both digital and film media.

I’ll get some overall shots of that area and some real closeups of the feathers/fuselage joint area. Is that ok?

Wish I were that pooch in front of the fire right now.
It’s F…F…FRRIGIN K…K…KOLDDDD out here!

s…s…s…stinger

Thanks for all of the effort stinger! I’m sure anything you get will be fine…try and stay warm!
