Pretty cool that they are locating so many of these Sunken WWII warships
Thank you for posting.
Bill
Your welcome,On another site it was mentioned that they also found Bongās Marge.
The skipper of Harder was Samuel Dealey. An uncle of his was George Dealey, a newspaper publisher in Dallas TX. George Dealey was active in civic issues including developing Dallas as a planned city and host of international expositions.
He is commemorated with a statue and name of a plaza in downtown Dallas.

@GMorrison I suppose thatās the same Dealey as in Dealey Plaza?
Tojo72, thank you for that article about the Harder. Man, it had/has to take a special type of person to serve on submarines and I say āThank Youā to all of the men & women who served.
Definitely, as a casual U-boat nerd the more I learn about sub conditions the more I am like ā wow it must take a special skillset to be able to stay on subs for that long! Especially during WWIIā
I canāt believe I posted that a year ago !!!
Another book that was good was an old Bantum War Series paperback called āPig Boatsā by Theodore Roscoe, you can still find it used on Amazon.
It really got into the Pacific Submarine War.
I also enjoyed āU-Boats off shoreā by Hoyt, covered the operations, off the US coast,Caribbean, and Gulf
Tojo72, I just picked up āPig Boatsā at my local Good Will Store and Iām anxious to start reading it.
Pig Boats is an abridgement of US Navy Submarine Operations in WWII, which occasionally turns up in used book stores. Roscoe was commissioned in the late '40s/early '50s to tell the definitive (for the time) story of the submarine service. He also did the same for destroyers, and the abridged version is Tin Cans. All well worth reading. Roscoe did a great job of treading the line between a scholarly work and making it readable.
Thereās also a good book on Dealey and Harder, called āDeath at a Distanceā by Michael Sturma
Thanks Llarry. Iāll keep an eye out for that title. Is āDeath at a Distanceā about the submarine service too?
Death at a Distance"* is specifically about the submarine Harder, and her skipper, Sam Dealey. He was known as the Destroyer Killer.
If you want another great sub commander memoir, āThunder Belowā by Gene Fluckey of āBarbā is a great one.
