AMT '67 Mercury Cougar "Puma GT"

I had the following two boxes of stuff hangin’ 'round the hobby room…

In the Cougar box was a couple old glue bombs…

And this was in the Mustang box…

So, I got the idea to attempt to build one of these…

In my opinion, this was a missed opportunity by the Ford Motor Company.

This is a project I started a while back, and since the “other” forum shut down, I thought I’d post it here, starting from the beginning of the project. This is nowhere near completed, so I’ll bring it up to date as I get a few minutes here and there to upload the pics. Any tips and tricks will be surely welcomed! I hope you all enjoy as I bludgeon this bunch o’ plastic! LOL

That’s cool! Following.

Oooooo , i like that… A fastback kitty. I want a 1:1 of those.

Is that a custom built 1:1, or a model, or a prototype?

I followed a car with a Washington vanity plate one morning…for 3 miles I tried to figure out “SPTNKTN”. He finally hit the turn signal, blink, blink, blink…blink, blink, blink. Almost ran into the ditch laughing…a Cougar.

Lookin’ forward to this!

Oh yeah I want to see this.

I used my regular tools of destruction to carve out the roof section of the Mustang…

Likewise with the Cougar…

The first test-fit showed promise…

After some tweakin’, it nestled down in there pretty good…

It’s really close to what I want it to be.

Now this is cool. A fastback Cougar. Super cool idea and it’s clear you know what you’re doing. I’ll be watching with interest.

That’s looking real good.

I love the whole idea and your getting off to a good start.

Like everyone else here, I’ll be following along.

Can’t wait until the next update.

I got this GT-E hood from TMResins…

This is actually a stock hood for a 1968 Cougar GT-E.

The gold paint proved to be stubborn…

Most of it came off, but I had some left…

So, I resorted to using some brush cleaner with a cotton swab…

It took a while, but all the paint came off, and the plastic was not harmed…

Here is the cleaned Cougar body, with the Mustang fastback roof and window unit in place…

So far, this has been a fairly smooth project.

Looking at this from certain angles makes it have a bit of a baby Torino vibe. Pretty cool, I like it.

Super cool [;)]

Thanks for following along, fellas!

I decided to remove the quarter vents from the Mustang roof…

Good ol’ DREMEL tool made short work of it…

A little careful clean-up, and I have openings…

Turning to the blend area at the back, I noticed a difference in the lines between the Cougar and Mustang deck lids…

After a good bit of filling and filing, I shot some DupliColor Primer on it…

The primer showed me that I had some filling and filing to do!

I got the body work like I want it…

I still have time to do some tweakin’, if’n it needs some!! HAHAHA

Coming along nicely. [:D]

Stay Safe.

Well…after leaving this project dormant for about a year, I dumped it back out on the workbench…

On the way to modifying the Cougar dashboard to fit the Mustang interior tub, I seem to remember a mis-guided razor saw and a Band-Aid coming into play…

In the search for parts and pieces for this project, I pulled this kit down from the shelf…

I found these valve covers in the '69 kit…

Some of these parts will be incorporated into the Puma GT project, as well…

The '69 XR-7 kit has a badly warped body in it, so I’ll most likely use some of those kit parts on this build.

Looking at hte grille, I thought it might need a little something extra…

So, I added just a couple simple pieces of .040" half-round trim…

Here’s the Mustang engine, with the induction set-up from the Cougar kit, and a wired distributor Kris Morgan…

It seems to fit in the engine bay fairly well…

Now Mustangs and Cougars, like their Chevy II counterparts, had small engine bays and little room to change plugs and whatnot. SO, you’ll have to throw the whole thing out. I’m just kidding. This is pretty neat. I love the curved velocity stacks. Nice touch.

I like those, too. They allow for using the stock hood, instead of having a giant hole in it! LOL
