AMT '67 Mercury Cougar "Puma GT"

Headers and glass packs! Why not?..

This engine bay has a 390 V-8 in it…

As you can see, the radiator hose attaches to the passenger side of said radiator.

The radiator I got in the Cougar box, which might not be the original kit radiator, has the spout on the wrong side, as marked in red…

An easy fix. I added some styrene tube to the right side. After the glue set, I worked it down to size…

While I had the styrene stuff out, I filled in the hinge openings in the firewall…

That is one of the tightest, if not the tightest engine bay combos ever. I so much hate working on those. Glad this is a kit and not the real deal. Love the glass packs, you are definately talking my language now.

Yep! Very snug!! HAHA

My son in law had a 68 Mustang GT with a 390. The old reference of don’t drop the wrench it’ll never hit the ground

These seats are from the Mustang kit…

Molded as one piece. I added the white shim so it would match up with the Cougar dashboard.

I cut the console away from the seats. The part in the back is the storage box that mount to the back of the console…

Box-on-console pic…

I added some sheet styrene to tie it all together…

Next, I added strips around the edges for trim…

Some fine-tuning will be necessary to make this all look a little better.

I added a seat track to the bucket seats…

These may be tweaked before final assembly.

DupliColor Primer was applied to several of the parts I’ve worked on, so far…

Those ejector pin marks will be dealt with before it’s done.

I went ahead a primed the chassis, too…

Excellent and creative project, and nicely done!

I had a '68 Cougar way back then. Fun car to drive and still one of my favorites.

(Unfortunately, we never got the carburator working quite right, until a few weeks before I traded it in!)

nice build so far and it’s good to see you taking the opportunity to add more detail

Many thanks, guys!

The stock rear pan that goes under the bumper is sort of flimsy in the Cougar kit, so I chose to use the custom piece…

I glued it in place…

Then removed the orange part…

After some clean-up, the stock bumper and taillights fit pretty well…

Got the rear suspension finished…

Gonna run some Gragar S/S wheels with Firestone Deluxe Champion Blue Lines…

Maybe a little more detail paint on those wheels before I’m done.

Looking good. Yeah some thinned blue on the center caps.

I really like the idea behind this build and you’re doing a swell job with it Keith.

Man it’s been a long while since I’ve talked to you and alot of stuff has happened in real life that got in the way. You still got that Barracuda kit man?

Howdy, Mr. Mustang! Yep, it’s been a while! Real life has a way of prying us away from the workbench! HAHA

Sadly, I don’t have the Barracuda kit, anymore. I made a pretty good trade with a fellow modeler for a “Holy Grail” type model, so we both did okay!

Lee, that’s not a bad idea on the center caps. I’ll certainly consider doing something like that.

Here is the front pan from the Cougar kit…

The Sharpie marks are showing parts of the pan that are molded in.

That part is not on a 1:1 Cougar…

You can see the marked portion in the following pic…

Here is the same piece with the portions removed…

To me, it just looks better than trying to black it out with Flat black paint.

The sterring wheel in the Cougar kit, like most steering wheels in scale model kits, had the holes in the spokes moled shut…

So, I grabbed some drill bits, that I can barely see, and drilled them out.

I also fabricated a steering column that looks more like the real thing…

I’m kicking around a couple ideas on the taillights…

This is the custom piece from the Cougar kit. It has a bar running through the middle, almost like the one I added to the front grille.

The other option is stock taillights and bumper…

These are the Cougar decals available from Keith Marks…

They can be used for a '67, or '68 Cougar.

I shot some flat black on a few parts…

This brings this build up to date. I started it in 2017!!

It will be a while before I get to work on it, or ANY build, as I’m in the middle of packing and moving 47 years worth of pricelss junk out of the house! We sold the house, and gotta be out by November the last, 2020!! LOL

Wish me luck, folks, and comments about the “Puma GT” are always welcome!!

Looking good. My vote not that it matters is for the stock tail light treatment.

I’m with midnight, the stockers, but maybe add the bars like you did for the grille.
