Academy's 1/72 P-40B

This started out to be a quick build like when I was a kid, took a slight detour down “the “advanced” modeler in me killed the fun highway” then got back on the “build it like a kid” express.

Not a perfect kit, but a lot of fun. 100% OOB with little to no obsessing. [:D]

OK, except for the decals.

And yes, I know the stripes are wrong.

I explain why in my build report. [:)]

Very cool Jon! I didn’t even notice the stripes until I read the build report. Thanks for the inspiration to just build a simple kit for the fun of it. [tup]

Hey jon is that an early Spitifre? What? It’s not…a…Spitfire?..[sigh]

nice looking Warhawk, and there’s nothing wrong with a good old fashioned “have fun” build. Thanks for sharing.

I think thats the US export version of the Spitfire . . .

Nice build of the old Academy kit. This one was lifted by Academy from the old Frog kit back in the early days before they started churning out some very nice all new tooled kits. Still, it’s not a bad kit.

Regards, Rick

Great looking build Jon [tup][tup] and personally I would never have known the tail was missing some stripes.

As for the quick build / put aside the AMS attitude I love it, though I’m having a tough time doing that myself. I started a Fairey Fulmar for the FAA GB and had all good intentions of doing it OOB but that cockpit was soooooo bare I just couldn’t do it. Next thing I know I’m raiding the spares box for all kinds of odds and ends to dress it up. Oh well, maybe next time! [sigh]

Hmmm. That thing looks very familiar to me. Where could I have seen it? I know, this is the Spitfire Mk 1 captured by the Americans in the War of 1812 and repainted in US colors right? No, that doesn’t seem right either. Oh well, nice looking little Warhawk. I’ll have to read the report.

It’s real nice Jon… but it’s a P-40. So really… who did you get to build it for you[;)]

Thanks to everyone for the nice comments! I guess I need to se the record straigh though, so here’s my list of my all-time favorite, top three aircraft:

  1. Spitfires
  2. P-40s
  3. Did I mention Spitfires?

LOL

It’s kinda funny, since I got back into building in Feb. 2006, I’ve built about 20 or so kits. 7 have been Spitfires, 5 have been P-40s.

And just yesterday, in looking into the stash and trying to decide what’s next, I thought “man, it’d be fun to do Spitfire…”

Nice build, Jon, but a kit 100% OOB and for fun? That’s unheard of!!

Mark

Being rather new here…it took me a bit to catch onto the Spitfire joke…so I did a little archive searching on JWB[;)]

Nice job on the small glass too!

I wish I had a top TWO favorites…I’m trying to hold it at seven!

Great work on a tiny model!
