Now that I have your attention[:D], I have a proposition.
My self and another member (stram8777) would like to start a group build. I know, your thinking Uggggggg… not another, theres a ton already[xx(] But its no ordinary one. This build is the opposite of what is normaly done here, a deconsrtuction build if you will. The build will consist of subjects pertaining to aircraft wrecks aircraft in distresed conditions or battel damaged similar to this,
or this
The aim of the build is to get away from the conventional form of building and show aircraft as they really were in times of war.
So you can see the extremity of this build but also its uniqness. So what do ya say
Are we bashing people who mess up on their spelling now?? cuz I noticed that that believe should not be spelled beleive… its not something that should pointed out critically, IMHO
as to the GB, I am not into airplanes too much but it sounds like a great GB and I am looking forward to it if it gets off the ground.
Also, the first letter of the beginning word of sentence should be capitalized and there should be a comma after the word “well.” Ain’t not eny off uz purfict!
what are we, in freakin’ english class again!![:)] interesting group build idea, i’ll have to watch from the sidelines on this one though. hope it gets goin’. later.
As for niggling criticisms of typos in our posts, I believe as long as the message is communicated, I couldn’t care less about spelling, syntax, punctuation or typos. Frankly, I’m on the site to relax and maybe learn a little, occasionally teach a little, but I’m not writing here for a paycheck (you know, to paraphrase someone else’s use of the tired '90s cliche in this thread, “Am there, do that…” See, it’s just as annoying and overbearing written that way too), but consider it more of a conversation among friends who share a similar interest. Very relaxed, informal conversation. We do a pretty good job on this site of keeping the more obnoxious rivet counters at bay, so for God’s sake let’s not tolerate that kind of pedantry in our use of language in posts.
And if that GB hasn’t been done on this particular site, then it’s new. And it’s a good idea. I’d rather see creativity than a GB that does little more than sell more kits for a particular manufacturer. Unless we can do a Williams Bros. GB before all the kits are gone.
TOM
hehe. i wudd anjoy makeing a distroyd kit thoughg. it wudd giv me praktis bashing upp a kkit.
And because I feel like being REALLY nitpicky in your bio in you profile when you mention Aurora, they’re a company name so they should be capitalized… hehe.
V.A.,
I think the “Deconstruction” GB is a great idea. All too often we build our models in a pristine, as new, mildly or heavily weathered condition, with never a thought for what eventually happened to all those thousands upon thousands of airframes.
I’d love to see what people can come up with. With the skills and determination of the modelers who post here, I’m sure there’ll be some great models.
And get this - I strongly believe if someone posts a topic or reply that contains typos or incorrect syntax, it’s polite to refrain from pointing the finger and heaping ridicule on the perpetrator. We should all remember the Golden Rule as I was taught in Sunday School when I was a child : Do unto others as we would have them do unto us.
Advice for life.
interesting group build idea indeed.
as to the subsequent language/syntax/grammar related posts, well, i am afraid to say that this is one of the resons why i am becoming ever more the bystander in this forum: it’s just not as pleasant a place as it used to be.
regards,
Nicholas
Hey, Nicholas, long time no see. Just do like I did when I nearly quit. I decided I wouldn’t let the silly bastards win. I still have fun, I still post, but most of all I’m still learning. And isn’t that what the forums are all about? If someone wants to behave childishly, well let them and just ignore them. But you are right on one aspect, it’s not as nice of a neighborhood as it was early last year.
O K chaps can we now concentrate upon the main issue - the GB - to err is human etc. For my part this is a very good idea of a GB - certainly a challenge and is anyone brave enough to try a Wellington that has most of the fabric covering missing - as some did so return from an op?? One thing thoug, VA, I think I for one would want the end date to be rather far away please.
I can´t join this GB, it´s beyond my skills yet. Maybe next time.
I just wanted to say that it feels good for me, and perhaps all us that have english as a second language, that we can participate in this forum without being nervous about making mistakes. I ´m doing my best to get it right, but it´s good to know that you(most of you) care more about modeling than grammar.
That´s what this forum is about.
