They do have some accuracy issues around the canopy and intake (too flat), but whatever, they look like A-7s and I LOVE A-7s!
A lot of what holds me up on projects is the ordnance, gears and other “fiddlies”, so I decided to start there. That way, once I get rolling, I’ll roll on and on till it’s done! The “A” is gonna be fully loaded…that meant 24 mk82s had to be put together and sanded[proplr]. The “C” will be lightly loaded with 4 mk82 “snake eyes” that I robbed from another kit. I mounted all the stores and whatnot on stretched sprue pieces, CAed to more scrap sprue to make handling/painting easy.
With the boring stuff outta the way…time to get fun!!! The kit supplied cockpits are pretty plain, nothing exciting…more on that later. The seats are very boring and basic. I almost ordered some from True Details, but for $6…F that S!!! I’ve got some Arizona Tea cans!
Fermis, don’t swear too loudly when you get to the MERs,just steal the parts from the other kit,or PM me and I will send you some “parts to finish” with
the MERs don’t come with enough parts to build them all in those kits,don’t know why
I do have both of these in 1/48, as well as the Hasegawa kit (and another 1/72, Italeri, and Trumpy’s 1/32). The Hasegawa is a bit better, IMHO, as far as accuracy around the intake and canopy. The break down between H/B and Hase is pretty much the same. The only big difference is the H/B wings attach to the fuse seperately (clean-up is easier), and the Hase kit has a 1 piece top wing, including part of the spine.
I’ll start with the “A”. I used Eduards color zoom PE on this one. Makes things very simple and dresses up the baren cockpit.
…And the “C”…which includes parts to make a “K” model…so, now it’s gonna be a “K”, marked as Michigan ANG (not sure if they ever used "K"s, but that’s what it’s gonna be anyway!
I used bits and pieces of scrap PE and plastic to dress up this pit, and picked out (made up!) some details with a fine brush. Aint perfect, but it’s something…and it looks better than the decals…canopy will be closed on this one anyway.
A-7 gearbays are very busy places, packed full of plumbing and wiring. The kit parts are very lazy, so I added some brass rod and wire to busy them up a bit.
Try to stay away from 1/72 scale, my eyes thank me. [8-|] Fantastic work as usual![t$t] As for the tea can metal, will a coke or pepsi can do or is the tea can thinner?
