Was in my local Wal-Mart today and noticed they had a new line of 1:32 scale model kits made by 21st century toys. These are the same people who offer the pre-made plastic (toys?) collectibles of WWII aircraft.
Has anybody built one of these kits? For $10 - 11 they look inviting, but wondering on quality, etc. They had the Stuka, Zero, BF-109 and Maachi 202 when I looked. I gneerally build 1:48, but the price has me wondering if these would be any good or not? Perhaps they’d end up looking like the toy versions that are already put together . . .
I’ve got the Macchi MC202 in my stash. For the money it wasn’t a bad deal. A couple items that I found out when I posted about mine, Yes they are based on the pre-painted shelf sitters and it (at least the Macchi) looks pretty accurate. It’s no Tamiya, but I beleive it will build up into a good looking build. Be forewarned though, there are screws holding it together and there are plastic plugs that go over these screws. Pay attention to the plug because some of them have engraved panel lines that should match up to the main part of the fuselage. Also all of the pieces are decent in regards to detail, but there is still room for improvement.
I like what these kits represent, a good basic kit at a fair price. You can detail it as much or as little as you want. As far as subject matter, exactly how many 1/32 Macchie 202s are there? On a scale of 1 to 10 I’ll give this kit a solid 7 and I’m looking forward to more from this company. I would recommend going ahead and picking one up and trying it.
They sound like a bargain for the price- I plan on getting them. My local WalMart has the C.202 and an A6M Zero. Wish I could find the Corsair and -109, though. Hopefully 21st Century will expand their distribution channels.
Think I’m gonna stop by Walmart tomorrow before work and try to find one of these. Looks like a fun kit to build for a price that won’t scare my wallet! Thanks for pointing them out. [:D]
Our Wally World has the 202 and the Zero. Mom has already promised them instead of candy for Valentines. I’d like to see the rest and more as well. I picked up a Revell? P-40E in 1/32 and never finished if since it would be all alone…(Sue me, I’m the kind of person who likes to keep kittens together and still feel guilty I didn’t take my Border Collie’s brother too.) I might have to finish it now.
