1/72 Revell JU-88 WIP

Technically the 1/72 scale JU-88 is the resized version of the 1/32 scale kit. All I have is the 1969 issue 1/72 scale Revell JU-88.

Sorry for the delay there buddy!

I started with a slightly lightened RLM66, them drybrush with a plain old grey, and some steel, for chipping. I then use a black and raw umber wash, just around the raised edges, followed by an overall raw umber wash.

Back to the project!

IP is Eduard, with clear glue for inst. glass.

Wired up the backside of IP.

Pit all closed up…note that nasty gap in top of fuse.(it’s actaull a little worse than it looks in pic…BOOOOOOO!

There are some pretty bad fit issues around the nose area. The first “glass” piece fits great, on one side, but the other has a 1mm step, was able to sand that out though (already taken care of in pic). There’s also a bad gap between the forward gondola “glass” and the fuse, “glass”.

Gap is easilly fixed with a styrene shim, tapered down.

The landing light area is pretty typical…no detail, just a wierd step. I carved off the step, closed up the hole and used a piece of clear stretched sprue for the light. In the background, you can see the gap on the fuse has been filled (sheet styrene) and rescribed.

For the wings…the flaps and ailerons are already seperate pieces. To pose the flaps down, I had to carve out the inner/rear of the nacelles and sand down the forward edges of the hump that is on the flaps. The elevators had to be cut off of the tailplanes in order to pose them “at rest”.

WOW—that detail is better than most I’ve seen in quarter scale…what scheme you going with…???

So sems we do have some slight errors in the kit, but doesn’t seem anything to major. Nice to get a heads up. Its looking good. Is the Eduard set you are useing the one designed for this kit. I am still waiting for the BIG Ed version to come out.

Fantastic detail you got there. Thanks for the tips on the cockpit. I tried to do soemthing simmilar on the JU-87 and didn’t quite get it down like you did.

So fun to see a large number of details on a 1/72 kit [:P] the ju-88 was not on my future target but this kit really rock!!

You normally only get this level of detail in 72nd by useing resin or PE AM sets, but these new kits are very well detailed as is. Its a great kit bsyamato, if you want a 72nd 88, deffinatly go for this one.

Hmmmm - looks slightly more advanced than the Italeri C6 I have in the stash… [;)]

If that C6 is anything like their other 88’s, then it is by a long way. Its deffinatly on a par with the hase kits, at a fraction of the price.

Actually I shouldn’t be too hard on it. The cockpit detail is actually pretty good (not as goos as that RoG kit though), undercarriage bays & engine faces are decent for 1/72 too. Raised panel lines aren’t my preference, but wouldn’t make me say no. Got it for $7-8 iirc, so it was at least worth the investment!

Ye, i know what you mean Vance. I was building their A-4 kit a couple of years ago, but i messed it up. And i have two of their A-17 kits in the stash. They are nice kits. But new one cost slightly more than the new revell kit, at least over here. I’ll deffinatly be hopeing Revell bring out a few more variants.

The Revell Lancaster in 72nd is also a very nice kit…

That kit was on my “maybe I should pick it up” list when it first came out. (I saw a Lanc in the air/on the tarmac down here 20(?) years ago, the "Mynarski Lancaster) But I keep telling myself I’d have nowhere to put it. Of course, I’m partway through building a He177 that I have no place to display either…

I like this scheme:

Image Detail

That was a common late-war scheme…

What are the RLM call-outs for petrol fire, tracer rounds and smoke?

What’s going on in here?

Nothing!

Just got bombs to do and a little weathering, should be done tonight!

Or not…

Ya, something made me change my mind on the bombs…took a little more time!

Pics coming soon…gotta go poop first!
