I have one on the bench right now too.

Its a great kit. I’ve built 6 since they were released. Still have 4 in the display cabinet and another 4 in the stash

Bring it on bud.

An AM kit…looking very much forward to it.

Here’s some cockpit photos.

Main panel not completed yet

I think I’ll enjoy keeping an eye on this thread. I have the #3410 RAF MK-IA in the stash, and the instructions are…not great. Typical AM, I guess, but I like to see pictures more than read descriptions, I make fewer errors that way… :man_shrugging:

That was the only bad thing on AM kits. The instructions were “not so great”. If you think the Mustang is confusing try the Vindicator.

I still remember when those AM kits burst onto the modeling scene. My modeling club bought some for a group build and I got their A-36 version which was the dive bomber version.

Yeah. I kept thinking, at the time, who’s going to pay $20-$25 for a WWII fighter?

Hey everyone. Been hit and miss for me but the plane is out together Rand the painting has started.

Can someone tell me why this keeps happening?

Primed, dried for at least 36 hrs, I’m using model air paints, well thinned and multiple coats as gradual build up. Let the paint dry for 48 hours before I taped to protect what was painted.

I’ve continued and masked the underside for D-Day markings.

What tape are you using to mask with? Tamiya tape that has low tack? To get a lower tack, sometimes I’ll put the tape on my jeans and rip it off and repeat the process a couple of times until I get the right amount of tack.

These Accurate Miniature builds never get old. Love these kits.

Joe

Interesting. Yes I’m using Tamiya tape. Never thought of putting it in jeans first.

I’m loving this kit as well. Added CMK control surfaces as well.

She’s lookin’ good so far. :+1:

I’ve got a AM Avenger and really need to get another AM Dauntless kit.

Your problems with the paint lifting is why I’ll never use Vallejo. I’ve heard thus happen way too many times

Build is looking good. Cockpit in particular.

I share your frustrations with tape lifting paint. Is it pulling up the primer too, or just peeling the Vallejo paint off the primer? What kind of primer did you use?

I’ve got the same kit - I was thinking of selling it because I’ve got a Tamiya P-51C. But Accurate Miniatures make very interesting kits.

Also, the P-51A is different from the P-51C…

I agree about the quality of the AM kits back in the day. Does anyone know if their quality is the same since Academy/Italeri got hold of their molds?
