Well, first off I’d like to thank Hunterw450 for his help, can’t thank you enough. The kit is Italeri’s Landrover. The DSHK machine gun and extra ammo cases are from a Tamiya kit, and I added a lead foil strap to the ammo case. The tripod mount is scratchbuilt, and the chain and jerry cans are just some scraps I had. I’m going to replace the two short chains supporting the tailgate with the real stuff later too. The kit flew together, I only opened the box about 6 hours before the time of pictures. I plan to paint it off white som I can post shade the panels pure white. Last I plan to use the tissue paper and glue method for tarp making, and make a small tarp to cover the “cab” or front seat portion ofthe vehicle and give it a makeshift roof.
Any criticism commments and advice welcome and wanted! Anyways, here what you all came for: [:D]
And one of the 4-6 figures to go with it:
PS: I’ll post bigger pictures tomorow. Thanks for looking.
Tigerman–I hadn’t thought about sand bags yet…Since the vehicle is going to have a soft top cover, they can’t be piled on the roof of the enclosed portion straight ahead, but now that you say it I think I might put some to the sides or maybe some just behind the seats. Godd idea. And tips on making the appearance of a cracked windshiel would be appreciated.
They are quite easy. For just cracks, simply take an xacto knife and scratch the pattern into the clear plastic. For a bullet hole, drill a small hole in the clear plastic first, then scratch a radial spiderweb pattern coming from the hole. Don’t make then too uniform and add some sharp angles for variety.
1/35. Not sure of date, the box says both testors and italeri. I’ve seen a couple versions too, hard top, soft top etc…and have parts for either military or civilian versions.
Definately cheaper. The land rover goes 25 to 40 on ebay, so figure 30 bucks shipped if your lucky, plus 8-12 for one of the plastic DSHK sets, or just use a spare 50 or something if your that srtapped for cash. Overall much cheaper than a 60-70+ resin kit.
Thanks, guys! Yesterday I basecoated it light gray, and panel highlighted it into more of a whiteish color. Then I hit it with some future. When that was dry I did a black wash. Either the future wasn’t thick enough, dry enough, or something was bad with the paint, but when I was removing some of the wash I removed some white paint too and it showed down to bare dark green plastic. As I was tihnking of ways to cover it up, I noticed it looked exactly like scale peeling paint. So, reading some references, I found that the military Landrover I’m modelling would have been dark green anyways. So I figured that it wouldn’t be too imposible that it started dark green, and when these rebel soldiers got a hold of it the poorly repainted it white, and the paint began to peel. So I replicated the look all over the vehicle, mainly in the med and on the front bumper area. With a little work I can make the green plastic areas loo like green painted metal. Pictures willbe up in a little while. Thanks for looking!
Allrighty, well, haven’t done a whole lot the last couple days, probably spent more time in the water than not! Man how do you southerners do it? It was only around 85 today and I thought I was going to pass out!
Anyways, so far, I’ve basecoated, panel highlighted, done a black wash, lots of chipping down to the green plastic (read above post for why the chipping is so extreme) then some brownish and rust to dirty it up, and began painting details and stowage. The rust will be toned waaay down durring dusting, I know it looks extreme now. Still got a good amount of work to do, one in particular being painting tailights, anyone know which colors these should be? Anyone with suggestions, criticism and advice feel free, that’s what I’m here for!
Those who are faint of heart when it comes to weathering, you have been warned! [:D] [xx(]
I’m located in Colchester, Vermont, near Burlington which you may know better. I’ve been to Florida a couple times myself, once this spring break actually, we stayed near Fort Lauderdale, I think it was and had some friends in Fort Pierce. We were near Sanibel too, I beleive, man I’m bad at locations!
We stayed on a biiiiiig long strip of hotels on the beach, it was called the diamondhead in case you know the area, lovely vacation, actually. My mom and dad went for the day with the friends I mentioned who have I camp somewhere in the everglades, or nearby. I’ve got pictures on my computer of her firing off all kinds of guns at a little firing range of theirs. Pretty funny actually if you know here, kind of looks like Arnold Schwarzenneger (spelling?) and a soccer mom got mixed up.
Damn that paint peal effect looks great! Especially like the rear section. Sounds like a small goof up worked out and even taught a few of us a technique! Keep it up bro!
