1/35 scale Dora Railroad Gun

Just received the latest FineScale yesterday and saw a tiny ad in the back pages about the Dora railroad cannon in 1/35 scale. Interested, I went to Modelers-Paradise.com and checked it out…the thing is HUGE! The gun itself is 62" long on a 6 1/2’ long rail bed…and I thought the K-5 Leopold was big. The kit isn’t in production yet, they’re taking orders with a $90 down payment, and it’s listed at $700. My wife said if I bought the kit it’d be the big “D” for us! Awesome model. Could be a problem finding a place to display it, eh?

[:D]So, when do you get divorced?..Kenny

Arrrrrgh! The frustration level is high!

Don’t worry about it. After you get the kit I will happily give it a place of honor in my house. [:)] Figure it will probably be to cramped in your car for both you and the kit after she kicks you out [}:)]

Best Regards,

Mark

When you get divorced get rid of the big bed and put in a single. This should give you lots of room to display it.

Time to find a new wife!

Man, and I thought my wife was bad! Actually, she’s a good camper. However, if I bought a kit that expensive, I’d kick myself in the tush. That’s about what I paid for my entire stash. Still sounds like one heck of a kit.

tigerman, She’s not really bad at all…is actually a very understanding person. She had no problem with my purchase of the Kriegslokomotive and the K-5 Leopold, even gave me a gift certificate for $200 at Don’s Hobbies in Greeley, CO this past Christmas. Her problem with such a huge time-consuming model is that it would tempt me away from necessary work that has to be done on and around the house. Check out the website and look at that monster, it’s incredible.

I came >< close to actually ordering one…even had the whole payment schedule thing worked out…but truth of the matter is, I can’t see putting up that kind of cash on a “sight unseen” item that may, or may not, ever make it to full and final production. That and you can get a stash almost the same dimensions for the same amount of $$$. [:D]

yes I saw it too!!! and I have placed my depoist… hope they actually make the jolly thing… Its not wife that scares me but the size of it.

Actually, I was kind of teasing. Power to you man if you can pull it off. I can only imagine the size of that brute.

Blackfive, welcome to the forums and good luck to you if you get one. We expect lots of in-progress photos.

Since the thing is soo huge you could probably live in the thing if worse came to worse.

Thank you for the warm welcome Tigerman, I must I am new to armour modelling, but I just love tanks, therefore this “Dora” is going to sit on the shelve till I develope a reasonable shkill set, thought my first5 model would be an amoured car (don’t think I can really bugger it up) simple build and topic, but I will post some pics so you chaps can tear ti to bits…

regards to all

That is one of my dream kits

Anyone else read the FAQ at the bottom of the information page…I think it answers a lot of our questions!!

From the page…

Will I get divorced when I buy this kit?

Well, that is if your wife does not love you anyway !

Will my husband love me forever if I buy him this kit?

YES! Definitely! And it keeps him away from the bars and casinos and bet-booths and of course from other women! And he will of course always think of you crazy chicken !

[:D][:D][:D][:D][:D]

Ah yes the infamous “crazy chicken” reference. Calling my wife a “crazy chicken” wouldn’t help my chances, not one bit. [8-]

If the wife won’t let you keep it at home, how about the desk at work?[;)]

Blackfive, welcome to the forum.

Would that be Black Five as in Stanier Black Five?

Karl

the crazy chicken reference makes me laugh out loud every single time.

That "crazy chicken " reference is German thing, and does not really translate to well , did I tell you he called me from Germany I was rather impressed… (wife was not) and I quote… We better not require a 2nd morg for your toys, you have enough as it is etc etc “yes dear” …now where do I hide a 6 ft box or is that a coffin?

Hi folks,
its not in question anymore whether this lil beauty will make it into production. The manufacturer is already working on the molds and we should get a test shot late September. We keep our customers updated by email about the progress. We will also offer turned alu barrels for both the tiny 144 and the 35 Dora.

With the time needed for shipping it should be in our customers hands right before x-mas, so go and take care that your x-mas tree doesnt look tiny aside the Dora kit !
We expect it to be in our warehouses in Germany and USA late November.

The manufacturer told us it will not be a simple upscale from their lil 144 Dora but with more parts and details, all injection molded, no etched parts nor resin included, and of course NOT one crew figure of the 1400 needed for this beast !

We also take installments for this item only. So you can do the timing yourself when to get your kit. We do ship of course only when payment is done completely.

As for the space you need for this thing: put your 40" tv flatscreener into the bedroom and the Dora in the living room ! Will catch way more attention than the Superbowl…

Happy modeling to all of you

Hans
