Long time since my last logon to the forum (quite busy in Sunny Sydney! [:)] still owe details on my "kit moving nightmare!!!), but now I’m happily surprised to have this HUGE chunk of plastic available to us… and in 2 popular scales: 1/144 and the US-Favoured 1/35 (MASSIVE !!!). Very, very good news for the modelling fellowship, and congratulations to the brave manufacturer.
Just one shy request… does anybody knows of a 1/72 (or 1/76) Dora/Schwere Gustav kit? If no one (still) exists… maybe the (brave) manufacturer can scale down the 1/35 version to the very popular (still) 1/72 scale? I’m quite sure it would sell as hot pies!!!
I’d personally buy one, to show it along my “Leopold” and “Karl” 1/72 kits (once I build them! [:I] ).
Ah!!! and what about some DR locos to haul these beasts??? I’ve seen Trumpeter’s one in 1/35, and looks nice… please some in 1/72???
I’ve been monitoring this project since I heard about it. I can’t believe a 1/35 model will actually be produced. This thing is incredible. I’m still debating purchasing one. It would make one hell of a centerpiece for a living-room sized diorama.
I recall seeing one DORA in 1/76 scale, and one in HO scale(1/87?) If you have the time probably 6 hours on the weekend looking on line you could find it. I sent my deposit this weekend, and why not! Any one who buys this will have quite a model destine for history. It’s one thing to have all the Tiger variants, and Panthers and so on, but this-this is HISTORY. Who would thought Karl’s and Leopolds would have made it to 1/35th, let alone 2 different companies! No room, too many kits, dump them! I had 200 plus aircraft kits and got bit by the armor bug, and never looked back. How many of them would I have made? Maybe 50 if I was lucky. So for you " tread heads " out there maybe look over you collection this weekend, and reconsider. I’m sure a few of you might be thinking this over. And no I don’t work for M.Paradise, or Hans, just been waiting for 10 years for someone or company to have the balls to make it!! If you haven’t seen it check out Toothills 1/35, 1/20, and 1/16th DORA’s there GRRREAATTT!!!
Yup! I have to agree I am really looking forward to getting mine, chap told me they are limited to 2500 models worldwide ( shame it does not come with a limited edition certificate)… I have been thinking though with my experience level it maybe a rather expensive learning excercise, but once I open that box (it will have to be coffin sized) …and look over the instructions I figure that is when I will make the call do build it myself or enlist some prof help…;. bet they would change an arm and a leg plus my next unborn child as a down payment…which reminds me I made some investigations a while on 06 about getting a 1/32 scale aircraft made for me the chap wanted 2500 plus the cost of the kit … Well I guess I will be making the Dora myself …
I pre-ordered one last night, too. I had planned to buy a PS3 in November anyway and it is just a little less expensive than this 1/35 Dora (OK,OK, I know $600 for a game console is absurd but that is a whole nuther discussion). Anyway, I plan on putting it over the TV in the living room so the screen looks tiny by comparison and my fashion-conscious wife will insist on getting one of those new wide-screen digital sets to balance out the wall. Sneaky, huh. THEN, I’ll buy the PS3 next spring cuz that cost will seem small compared to how much we shelled out for the TV. Absoultely brilliant. I’ve got the plan nailed down, now all I have to do is get the money . . . . . [%-)]
Well, the price of modeling this one just went up . . . Got an e-mail from Hans saying that the manufacturer has raised the price to $800. Existing valid and confirmed orders, like mine, will not be affected BUT they may ask for help on the shipping cost rather than that being included in the purchase price. The manufacturer estimates that the kit will need a cubic meter of volume to box up - almost exactly the volume of a COFFIN (30x24x84).
I hope its pine cuz I might just need it when my wife finds out what I have done. [xx(]
As much as I want this kit and as much as it would pain me to plunk down $700 for it, I would LOVE IT to build it up and watch the end HUGE result!!
But I can’t. I simply CAN’T! I’m stuck right now in Shanghai working for an extended period so there is no way I can ship this thing back to th U.S. When I’m done! It’s simplly TOO BIG!!!
Yeah, as incredible as this thing would be, I’d have a pretty hard time finding the place to fit it. And one thing I’ve been wondering about. On a model this size, I can just imagine the thousands of tiny little details that will be missing from it.
Hi Chaps have just returned from warmer places, thought I would see how the Dora gun was progressing … now I am VEXED … now it is 800 bucks and I was not too far off with a post made previous box is size of “Coffin” a 48 scale would be nice anyone know of one… have to have a bit of a re think at 800 USD… then 199 for AL barrel… now on the other hand it is nice, but alas I feel my skills are not up to doing it justice ( thats the part that scares me ) …I am really a wargamer in 28 mm so this would make a fantastic objective well I will give it some more thought… regards to all
Just bought a UK aircraft modelling magazine (just complementing FSM’s info! [:I] ) and discovered in a Hobby Web Shop ad that there is a pre-order for a “Heller Dora Railway Gun” at $799.95 (shipping included)… I wonder if this kit is the same that we’re all speaking about in this thread? [?]
Because up to this moment, the kit producer was going to be “modellers-paradise”… and “Heller” supposedly filed for bankrupcy (dragging lovely Airfix" with it! [:(] )… so I feel a little confused!
Can anyone help me understand, please?
Ta!
Diego.[8D]
PS: does anybody know if this kit is going to be “down-scaled” to 1/72 (or maybe 1/76)? I would apply for a kit in that scale! [bow] (and probably wold move home to find a place for it [:D] )
jeez. I was just talking to this guy about an M95 resin kit from Accurate Armor that costs an arm and a leg (200 bucks). this is like your entire body plus your SOUL! well… I’d give away my soul for a model kit, but it better be worth it
the wife got me the 1/35th Leopold from dragon for xmas and i thought that was huge i would have to get rid of my wife and kid to fit the dora in my apartment lol
