1/12 Star Trek TOS Mugato conversion kit.

The Moebius Kogar snap kit is the base kit.

The Mugato is a resin conversion kit for it.

The Kogar kit is well made, even though its a snap kit.

The Resin parts are very well cast, but will require a bit of clean up.

To mate everything will require a lot of putty and more than a bit of sculpting.

2 things I’m not strong at. Oh well, I guess I’ll learn, or not…

Where did you find those? I never heard of the basic kit, let alone the conversion for it.

Amazing the things that are out there. Looks like a Dremel tool with a Destructo Bit and a jar of Aves will be your best friends to tackle the beast.

So where is that Kanutu woman with the wiggly fake turds? [:O]

Or a Gorn? You would get all kinds of heckling, with guys giving advice like “To get the parts to fit, look around you. See if you can find stuff to… to build a lathe.” [:P]

I bought him from CultTv man:

https://www.culttvmanshop.com/Sci-Fi-Scenes-Alien-Ape-Conversion-and-base-Set_p_2574.html

I’ve been waiting 8 months for him to get it back in stock, so if you want one snap it up!

The Kogar kit is not something that would ever be on my radar if it wasn’t the base kit for the Mugato.

I have the Aves, my dremel died and I replace it with a cheap harbor frieght one. Not a good idea. The chuck is off just enough that some dremel bits don’t fit. But I like your thinking Real G!

I would LOVE a 1/2 scale Gorn to go with my Kirk head conversion, that goes with my Starfleet Officer conversion of the Spock kit!

You are going to need to get the torn shirt body replacement if you truly want to do Kirk! [;)]

Yup! If Kirk fights an anyone he has to tear his shirt!

You think Starfleet uniforms could make a stronger shirt!

He wears a black T-shirt under his uniform shirt, until he has a fight, then the black T-shirt vanishes and then he has nothing on underneath so you can see his chest.

That is an awesome conversion.

Dremel + resin= Wear a mask!

Bizarre and cool kits.

Yup, Important safety tip!

I learned my lesson years ago dremelling resin. Not fun!

Thanks!

If you don’t want to do the shirt thing, get a model of a woman, still works with Kirk.

Odd, the only woman I remember Archer getting involved with was the Captain of the Colunbia.

OHHHHH, love the Mugato!!!

Please keep us updated!!!

I started this while waiting for another kit to dry.

The Kogar base kit is not bad.

It has 3 head options, none of which I’ll be using, but they look nice.

It also comes with 2 left arm options, one holding the ape head to be used with the human head.

The fit of the resin is good, but it still needs some work.

I painted the back of the resin white and held it on Kogar, then ground down the

white paint.

I had to grind the resin a bit also.

The fit is better, but putty will still be needed.

Kogar got breast reduction surgery today:

So, I’m looking for some advice.

I’m at the point where I need to glue the resin Mugato parts to the plastic Kogar parts.

I’m planing on using thick CA glue for this,

Rather than try and fill the gaps after, I’m thinking of using some rolled bits of Aves stuck to the inside of the join,

then let it squish out and using a sculpting tool try and form the hair pattern while the aves is still soft.

Any thoughts? Better ideas?

Thanks

Mark

That looks cool, squishing some putty out of the seams and scribing some fur into it sounds like a good idea to me. Please let us know how it goes.

I picked up some epoxy sculpting putty online, and I have some auto body filler.

I’m hoping one of those will work.

I recently purchased some Apoxie Sculpt for seams that needed some sculpting work. It had a nice working time. It is very sticky and strong, it both fills and bonds solidly. I was able to sculpt it to the point of not having to worry to do any extensive sanding like I am used to with the fast setting Tamiya white or Testors contor putties that I have otherwise.

The auto body filler (Bondo) has about a 10-15 min working time. I’ve used it before with good results. The scultping putty I have ordered says it has 45 min working time.

THe sculpting putty will be here Wednesday.

It sounds like one of those should probably work for you. The Apoxie Sculpt lists a 1-3 hour working time, 24 for curing. I didn’t check how long it was workable when I used it though, I certainly was done in less than an hour with it. In the end I found it was very hard, but it did sand well. I was able to work it to where I wanted it, and only lightly sanded it except in one area that I accidentally went overboard on, I thought it was going to be covered by another part, but it ended up to be to much.

The Magic-sculpt came the other day. I have Apoxie sculpt, Easysand body filler, Magic-sculpt, and an many white model putty’s.

After a few tests I went with the Magic-sculpt. I think it worked well so far.

This is the 1st layer, sculpted with a sculpting tool, a putty tool, and an exacto.

It’s setting now, but so far I’m pleased.

Ohhhhhhhh, now that looks good!!!

I hope Dr.s McCoy and M’Benga have the anti-venom ready…
