1/12 Star Trek TOS Mugato conversion kit.

Thanks!

So far I’m happy with it.

One tip I got from another forum is to use rubbing alchohol as the sculpt sets.

I soaked a cotton swab in it and kept smoothing the sculpt. Once the feathering was done I still had time to add the texture.

I used a putty application tool 1st, then the sculpting tool, and finally an Exacto knife.

Very nicely done!

Thank you!

Sculpting part 2!

I evened out the arms and built up the rear end of the mugato today.

So far I’m really liking this sculpt!

I got a coat of primer on today.

I’m very happy so far!

That looks great, you’re making fantastic progress here.

Funny, I never noticed his cute little tail in the episode

Thanks!

He is coming along nicely.

I did some filling and sanding, then a coat of Tamiya fine white primer.

I decided to try and layer the paint. I started with some Tamiya light tan and grey.

Then added a light coat of flat white.

Then a mist of Tamiya racing white.

The intent was to get a layerd multi tone look. It worked ok, but It didn’t give as much contrast as I wanted.

Today, after letting the Mugato cure for a bit, I gave him a wash of very thined light rust.

I’ll dry brush some white highlights tomorrow. If that looks good I can start on the face.

That’s looking pretty good! You’re inspiring me.

Gary

Thanks Gary!

MMMMMM;

Youses is doin good wid that critter. Keep on Keepin on !

I dry brushed flat white on the Mugato.

I also started on his base.

I think I’m happy with the fur. I’ll start the face/hands/spine tomorrow.

I just posted this in the Figure section.

I’m getting close.

I masked the base today.

And most of the detail painting was started.

His face/hands/feet are Italian sand.

The spines are sand

The horn is light brown.

Sadly I forgot his ears. I’ll fix that tomorrow.

The Face is a shade too dark. I might repaint it.

The Mugato is done!

Here he is on display with Spock.

I might make a small phaser 1 to put on the base near the communicator.

I’m very happy with how he came out! This was really outside of my comfort zone.

Thanks everyone for all the suggestions.

Oh cool!!! Such a nice job!!

He looks like he wants to throw down with Kirk but I suppose Spock will do!!!

Just don’t stick him in there with Bones…

‘Damn it Jim, I’m a doctor not a professional wrestler!!!’

Thank you very much!

He was a fun build that forced me to try new things.

Here he is on display.

He looks good with your collection of SF models!

Thanks!

I’m happy to have him there!

I made one small addition to Mr. Mugato!

I think I’m done with him for real now!

Science officer: ‘Sir, I think we found the missing landing party!!!’

Captain: ‘How’s that lieutenant?’

Science officer: ‘Yes, sir, remember that very fat and happy Muguto we encountered? Here’s a big pile of Mugato dung, with a communicator and a tricorder in it…’
