I broke out the Zvezda M3 scout car, finally, and I started doing research. I found a guy that built one with a twin .50 cal instead of one .50 and one .30. I have done some searching, and I can’t find an instance of a REAL setup like this. Was there ever one built with the twin .50? I’d like to see a picture if anyone has one!
Fomocamov; I would not doubt that A dual .50 field modification IMO. I personally have not seen an photos of the M3 with twin .50, but like I said I wouldnt doubt for a minute that a field mod was done in certain TOO.
I’m going to badge it Russian. I hope that they had ONE, but whether they did or not, that’s what I’m going to do. I guess I just needed someone to push me in the right direction. Thanks M1Carbine!
technically you wouldn’t have to modify anything in order to mount two .50 cal’s on a scout car. The machine gun mount was placed in a dolly that rode along the skate rail, you could mount either MG into the dolly.
As far as modifications that did exist, Pattons scout car had a pedestal mount bolted to the floor in the rear crew compartment with one .50 cal and another .50 cal mounted in the dolly on the skate rail.
It’s possible, the Ruskies did get quite a few scout cars and .50 machine guns through Lend-Lease. Thus their were probably some instances where the crafty Russians jerry-rigged a dual .50 cal.
By the way, I did a WIP on Zvezda M-3 Scout Car… /forums/1146616/ShowPost.aspx. Hope it helps, any more questions just send me a PM.[:)]
