Zil 157 truck from Trumpeter kit 204 . Its 9-26 and Its finished ! Cutting edge pictures posted !

Remember to pull your pants up after all of that plumbing work [;)] I have to agree with WBill, putting all of that extra work in, even if you don’t see it, is half the fun. Will look really good with the hood open [Y]

Coming along nicely [B]

Thanks Rob . Also remember you cant pull up your pants until the paper work is done …

Looks better now man !!!

HAH ! You corn fritter !!![t$t]

Its been a while but i have a few update pics . I did get some assembly and primer paint done . Soon i will have to get the frame and fenders painted in their final colors so that i can put the engine into the frame .

There were some major major mold marks on the inside of the cab that were difficult to fill and sand smooth due to the curved surface inside of a tight area . I used a stick with a piece of wet sand paper tapped to it so that i could reach down into the inside of the cab and sand it .

There was also some depressions to fill on the bottom of the cab as well .

The doors had ejection pin marks . Some i filled and the more difficult to reach ones i used strip styrene to cover .

The kit provided door mounted rear view mirrors arms were delicate and broke durring removal from the sprue so i fabricated new ones from copper wire .

Zill next time take care .

Hey Carl! Lookin’ good! I remember going through the same steps some 6-7 years ago, that was fun!

What painting is it going to be, again? If it’s supposed to be Soviet, I believe the color should be a little more green - some people swear the Humbrol 155 is perfect for the job. But of course the color of the photos (plus my screen) could mislead me too… Anyhow, good luck with your project and have a nice day

Paweł

Pawel , i havent decided on a color scheme yet , but i need to do it real soon . Did you do yours in Russian markings ? I’m looking forward to painting this one and getting it well weathered . I’m going to try out the chipping with the sponge method . I might do that over a faded green paint job . Not sure . Any of these Zil 1157’s runing around your neck of the woods ?

Thanks .

Zil later …[Y]

Carl, I did mine with Soviet defilade markings. I already posted it once in another thread, but here it is:

Sometimes you can see a ZiL-157 tractor used for logging around here, and they are usually beat up, repainted, chipped - you name it. The military trucks were usually well maintained - fortunately for all of us they didn’t get too much to do except for staying ready.

Like here’s one freshly sold by the polish military, in late style camo:

And here’s one in the typical soviet color:

When I see one around, I’ll try to take some photos for you. Hope it helps, good luck with that one and have a nice day

WOW! So many pin marks… they scare me. Great process there! I would have replaced the mirror rods with strong wiring too. Those fragile pieces never liked my fat fingers…

[Y]Nice and clean Zil Pawel . Just like it was ready for a May 1st parade .Really good looking painting details you did . Yes , good thing they never ad o be used in a war . Might have been against us Amerikans …[whstl]

Thanks for those reference pics .

Andy , you gots fat fingers ?

Very nice work Carl…you’ve definitely earned your stripes with filling those ejector marks! [;)]

Bill thanks for comming by again . I earned something doing all of that sanding …and then its hidden anyway [bnghead]

Pawel , that humbrol 155 does look pretty close to what i’ve seen of the Zil 157 in some pics off the internet .[Y]

Whoa Carl, that’s some mighty fine and patient work with those treacherous pin marks! Looks like you did a bang up job on them! Sometimes its just best to take care of those things, even if we don’t think we’ll see them later…you never know! [Y]

Hey Ernest thanks .[Y] I agree about taking care of that stuff , even though its hidden . We Know Its There ![:$]

Hi Shell [:)]

Great job on those freekin ejector pin marks[Y]…seems like Trumpy has the biggest in the industry !

I would like to add that your progress on the kit is commensurate with the fine quality you are producing ! If I ever do a softskin, I think I would enjoy this kit. I am really enjoying watching you bring this one to life old Pal!

corn fritters forever,[t$t]

tread[H]

Tread , first off, Yes , i dont get why a ejector pin has to 3/16 th of an inch in diameter ?

Second , now i have to go look up that big word , comm–en–sur–ate …???

Yes , if you say so …i think .

Just kidding my friend . Thanks for taking a look , you ole corn cobb .

Good process…
