Jay, don’t get too excited about this old reissue. It has the molded chassis with not much detail and to me the engine compartment looks kinda plain when completed. This kit will be a good one to practice with but if you wish to do another GTO, I would suggest the Revell 66 for a little better detail and finish. If you are really ambitious, I have seen guys bash this kit with some of the other AMT and Revell kits for more detail and realism. Since you are more a Tank and Aircraft guy, just practice with this one and enjoy it out of the box for what it is.
Glue the hood down and make it “curbside”. Black paint on the chassis, give a little tlc to the interior, get a good paint job/chrome trimming on the body, make sure all four wheels touch the base and at the correct ride height, and she’ll look good.
It is NOT a horrible kit, it was tooled back in 72, so it lacks some in detail, but with tlc, can be nice. If you want a better version of this body style, go with the Monogram 69 GTO Judge kit. The Monogram 64 GTO is very nice, as is te above mentioned Revell 66, one of their best.
