What armor build have you been planning for, researching for, practicing for, saving for, collecting for (buying every PE and resin set there is for it), etc.
You know–the project that you have been going over in your mind, again and again, while waiting for that perfect time (that never seems to come–sometimes because of fear of failure) that will arrive so that you can do it the justice it deserves? Or…have you already completed it? Please share!
For me it is Accurate Armour ( 2 kits), the 3.7" HAA gun with the AEC Matador tractor. I will put them both in a North Africa Diorama.
My Grandfather was 153 HAA Reg 8th army, served the length of the Africa campaign, hence my need to do it. At least i have some novel refference material!
1/35 M4A1 DD 75mm(wet). I have pretty much everything I need now after a recent purchase of a different kit provided a spare split commanders hatch. I have 3 view scale drawings, the recent Osprey book on the DD, and now finally, all the parts required (except the screws and their drives-still trying to figure out a source there). With luck and time, I may kick it off this year.
I want to build a Aufklarungspanzer 38(t) mit 2cm Kw.K.38
I love the 38(t) chassis and build just about anything on that chassis, and I’d love to try the dragon kit, but I really hate dragon! Not so much for the quality of the parts (they are very good, most of the time) but their instructions are terrible! And for me, that’s just not acceptable.
Actually, one of them has been this late Brummbar that I’m working on now. I’ve always lover the look of the beast, but never had the nerve to attempt it with all the necessary corrections and additions that were necessary to accurize it.
Another one was the wrecked PzIV in “SPOOKED!”. That was a dream for a while. As was the Hetzer I built just recently.
In my stash right now, I have the Italeri RSO w/PaK with two Aber PE sets to suffer through, and ModelKasten AM tracks to improve the horrible Italeri nun-usables; that’s gonna be another bear of a build. I have the late Jagdtiger with a ton of PE to throw at it. Thing is, sO many of the kits today though come with so many great AM parts already included that the day of needing that much to be a spectacular kit is almost fading into the past.
Geez, I guess I’ve been pretty much “gettin to” a lot of my “dream builds” since joining the FSM community here! That’s a tribute to all the great modelers here!
I have many but I’ve actually “cut plastic” on two of them. A super detailed M6 37mm AT GMC using the Skybow WC51/52 Dodge Weapon Carrier and the Trakz 37mm AT gun. I thought it’d be a simple combination but research told me that I had to backdate the Dodge to an earlier version (lots of work) and now need to scratch build most of the fighting compartment. This is a ton of work for a relatively small vehicle. Don’t know which version to paint it: US in North Africa, USMC in Bouganville, French forces in Southern France.
My other one is a mostly scratch project, an M31B1 Armored Recovery Vehicle. It’s the M31 based on the M3A5 Lee (welded hull, diesel engine). I’ve accumulated two M31 sets (Legends and Cal35), a DML M4A2 lower hull, Academy M3 Lee donor kit, Formations suspension upgrades and tool set, and lots of Evergreen sheet styrene. I’m mostly done with the upper hull. There are just zillions of fittings on the M31B1 so I need to set it aside as I need to complete my other projects in time for the AMPS show in April.
Another great question. I have three that pick my mind. 1. Dragon’s old Stug III Late with PE grills and Cavalier Zimmerit, waiting for me with patience (one of my very faves). 2. Dragon’s Tiger I Late. 3. Dragon’s Jagdtiger with the PE and aluminum barrel. I’m not a big AM guy, but any of those kits will require some time and patience. I have to think of what GB I’m going to come up with for those guys. LOL
Basically, I’m waiting for my skills to improve, because those three are some of my all-time favorites and I want to do a job to be proud of.
Good luck with the instructions, they perplexed me, especially trying to get the’break’ in the fender sponsons… Also, if you follow the assembly sequence in the instructions you will have MAJOR problems.
When you start it, better PM or e-mail me, I can save you some head scratching.
The three I have been practicing for are my Tamiya Dragon Wagon, the FAMO with trailer and the Revell 1/570 Scharnhorst with 2 White Ensign PE sets. I have all on hand, I just need to improve my PE and seam filling skills before I look at that battle cruiser again.
As for the other two, It’s the need to improve my armor weathering and airbrushing before applying the cement to styrene. Plus I feel compelled to get alot of AM for both. [:-^]
When I was yought I always wanted Tamiya Wibrewind, it looked like something sci-fi alittle, but never got the money, I did eventualy got it (as you all know from forum) but the zimmer and broken flak 38 got me worry, I cancel the idea of making a molde of the turret for a replica.
Had a great idea for a dio of the tank crew investegating a destoy willey jeep they shot down, maybe i can put a injured solider hiding under the rock or something to raise supspend.
One of mine’s in progress. It’s a late WWII M4A3E8, off the Academy lower hull and suspension (from their M51), Italeri turret updated (DML’s is better, didn’t have one) and Fruil tracks. All I need is the tracks to finish. This one dates (desire-wise) from my early teens.
Recently, I’m putting together pieces for a Magach 6B. Academy base, whoever’s Blazer packs, (I have an old Verlinden set) and Friul Merkava tracks. There’ll be some scratching here, don’t feel like ponying up for the Legends conversion…and then I’ve got a Merk I and II, waiting for, drum roll please, Friul tracks.
That’ll make my world round. Then it’s time to finish a bunch of Shermans…
There are three that are sitting and waiting for when the time and mindset are right to tackle them…1) RSO w/ PaK 40 (although I’m not as insane as doog on this one yet!) kitbash with DML PaK 40 2) Alan Bison I kitbash with DML Pz I parts and 3) DML’s Pzk III Ausf M/N with the full set of PE schurzen and details.
It kind of befuddles me that Dragon or Tristar haven’t released a Bison yet (maybe the Nuremburg toy show will release some details). I’m still waiting for a Panzerjager I myself.
The next project I “will” work on is the 1/32 Pershing Missile and M757 carrier. It is difficult to do research since the Pershing was classified. Very few pictures and most taken from a distance which show no details.
To further the problem, the treaty to remove the Pershing from Europe even stipulated how many displays can remain afterward (5 world wide) with the remaining missiles and M757s destroyed as part of the treaty.
Getting this going is one of the hardest model research projects. That among anything may slow me down.
First on the table, will be a kitbashed TKS-D tank destroyer (polish prototype, 2 built)-a little difficult since only 4-5 pics exist.
After that, will be a mostly scratched 10TP (again, polish prototype, 1 built, 10 pics), after a little more research I will be able to detirmine if I can demolish a BT-2 to do it.
However, those are both dreams. I hope to use my time here at school to draw up some basic plans for both. Once I get funding, though,
An FT-17 becons me, but this wouldn’t be your ordinary crummy one, I would be adding an interior-scratched, then using a resin upgrade set to get an engine in it, then PE and AM tracks. If time and money allows, I would also mount it on a rail carrier-the Poles had special self-propelled tank carriers that could allow an unmodified FT-17 to reach up to 30 mph on rails (Hehehe).
If that works out, then perhaps I will just empty the bank and buy enough ARMO resin sets to build the armored train Smialy (Polish, of course). These big trains would invariably win when they came up against ground forces-employing several 105mm and 155mm arty in armored turrets as direct fire weapons. At the time the germans couldn’t match it-nor was most of their air accurate enough to totally wipe them out.
More realistically, I would be content to finish a few more halftracks, and move closer to completing my 251 series.
