I recently saw a Badger Cyclone at the craft store for like 250 bucks. Is this a fair price? What type of compressor do you guys use and where did you go to purchase yours?

Generally I look into these few things for compressor;
It must have a moisture trap. If you live in a very humid area, then you need water trap.
Pressure gauge between 0 - 40 psi. You wont need air pressure more than that because normally you will spray around 20-25 psi.
The less noise the better
Make the sure the compressor does not over heat it self after around 30 minutes otherwise it will shut down automatically.
What brand does not concern me as long as those above are in.

Go to walmart.
Get your 100 P.S.I. Campbell-Hausefield W/ gauges (oiless) compressor.
Pay $59.99 plus tax.
Spend $20.00 on a moisture trap and attach to the line between the
compressor and the airbrush.
Or buy a “BIG TANK” [:D]
At 100 PSI, you are more than welcome to repaint my SUV Steve…[swg]

LOL, thanks to all. I thought 250 was a bit rich. [8D]
In the summer I paint my models in my garage and use the same compressor I run my air tools with.
I also just bought a $60 compresser (although I got mine at northern tool) so I could paint in the basement, and didn’t have to heat the garage up.(its 10 above this morning!!). It came with a regulator, and moisture has never been a problem in the winter in northern Minnesota.
I painted and sprayed a coat of future on my first tank with it this week and had no problems.
Lowes has a nice Pancake Compressor for $49 until Friday. It even comes with a brad nailer.
Alright [:X]smartypants
0 to 100 psi adjustable [:D]

[:(] Now I feel so robbed!
ps1,I’m with carves in all the thinges you should have.I just wanted you to know thatI purcahsed my central pheumatics BRAND NEW on line for way under half that by ways.Just keep lookoing om e-bey.I don’t remember the sellers name but I’ve seen the same comp from that seller selling at the same price. It may not be a CP or ingersall, but for the comparitive amount,I’m sure I’ll
have it forever. rudedog
I actually use the Testors mini blue compressor. Its not that good of a piece of equipment, but it does the job. I’ll keep it until it dies.
I used to have a Testor’s “Mini Blue”…it’s now in the closet.
Two years ago, I bought a Central Pneumatic oiless compressor with a build-in pressure gauge, automatic cut-off (@110 psi)/refill (@70 psi), and a 3 gallon tank from Harbor Freight for $79.95 (on sale). I love it!
I have used a 3/4 hp Craftsman from Sears for about 20 years. It goes from 0-100 psi as well. I bought it for about $99 then. I then took and mounted a pressure gauge, tank, and moisture trap, etc. to it. You couldn’t get them as combos then. It has worked great so far.
I would stay away from the little hobby compressors. They don’t last long and aren’t usable for anything else besides airbrushing. Also, make sure you get one with a tank, otherwise, you could get uneven spraying of paint due to compressor pulsing.
I went through I don’t know how many because I thought they were all too loud for inside. I recently bought a small Craftsman compressor that also came with a brad nailer but I still wished I’d have put out the money for a quiet one. I only use this one for airbrushing as my big one is out in my shop. Someday I’ll work my way up to a Badger millionaire.
