Howdy folks. Since I’m a scale auto guy, I was really amazed y’all liked my P-40, so I got a little braver, and enjoyed my second aircraft build in it seems like forever.
Almost done is a really simple kit, Testors kit #623, a 1:72 scale F4U-1 Corsair. I finished it as a “D” model with markings included in the kit, indicating it’s from the U.S.S. Bunker Hill circa Feb. 1945, sqquadron VF-84.
Hand brushed with Testors #1172 Sea Blue, Yellow cowl front brushed courtesy of Testors #1114 without any masking, and spray cleared with Model Master #2036 clear. After the clear cures a few days, I’ll put the goodies on. It comes with a drop tank, 2 bombs, and 8 rockets. Before I mess up, what colors should the under-wing rockets be?
Hope you enjoy!! click the pics they get bigger (if you didn’t know)
A very nice clean build.[tup] You must have perfected brush painting to a science, it looks great!
Be sure to show us a pic when you get the undewing stores on. I think the rockets were light grey with O/D green warheads. If I find a decent picture, I’ll post itb here.
Nice one Darrin. Your skill with hand brushing is excellent.
The underwing rockets were first used on the F4U-1D model. They were also retrofitted to a few earlier models. My references show them to be a light gray with OD heads & Silver ( or bare metal ) tips.
I can only echo what has already been said, Darin! You have perfected brush painting to alevel that some cannot meet with an airbrush! Your expertise is well documented here! Thanks for sharing and keep the pics coming!
Come on over to Scale Auto, I’m kustombuilder1 over there.
Thanks for all the good words folks, yeah ruddrat, I’m going for the first tour of duty look now, straight from the factory, brand new clean, just got to the ship. I’m gonna do a couple of more smaller ones, and re-aquaint myself with weathering skills on them.[:)]
Then, I’m gonna make 21st Century’s Zero look like a Zero.
