Yet Another Pledge Future Question

FSM recommends “Pledge Tile and Vinyl Floor Finish with Future Shine.” I had to order it from Amazon. Instead, Amazon sent me “Pledge Multi Surface Floor Care.” Is this the same product as the one FSM reccommends?

I don’t think so, but I could be wrong. When I googled it, all I found was "pledge multi surface floor cleaner." If that’s the same stuff you have, I’d be hesitant about using it on your model.

The label reads “Pledge FloorCare Multi-Surface Finish…Long lasting shine with acrylic protection” Interestingly, I can’t locate this product at Pledge’s Web site!

On the Pledge site, this is the stuff you want: http://www.pledge.com/en-US/Products/Pages/tile-and-vinyl-floor-finish-with-future-shine.aspx.

And here it is on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/SC-Johnson-11182-Pledge-FutureShine/dp/B000ARPH4C/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1364000860&sr=8-1&keywords=pledge+future

Funny thing. On Amazon, when you hit that product, the “people who bought this also bought…” has MicroSet and MicroSol. I guess no one uses it for floors anymore.

Paul

I ordered the stuff that your links show. However, Amazon sent me different ones. I better return them rather than take a chance.

This is the stuff you want. If you got this, definitely return it. Aaron did MSDS sheets for the floor finish a couple of weeks ago. We couldn’t discern a difference between the finish advertised for wood floors and those for tile and vinyl. However, we recommend sticking with the latter just to be safe.

Tim

I got neither. The label clearly says, “Pledge FloorCare Multi-Surface Finish.” But this product is nowhere to be found! Not on Google, not on Yahoo, not on SC Johnson’s home page. What is this? Very odd. Maybe some Pledge products with misprinted labels are circulating? I’m returning it anyway.

While at Wal-Mart last weekened I opened each different kind, and they all smelled the same, looked the same and had the same viscosity. I think they are all the same.

well, they might smell the same, but, they don’t work the same

one kind is designed to go over coats already in place, that is the kind we want and that is the kind we use, because we want to put down a layer, put on decals, and then put down another layer

the kinds with “clean” or “cleaner” in their labels are designed to dissolve the layers already in place and sort of “melt or swirl” the new and the old together into a fresh look when dried

I think that second type would wreak havoc on decals and weathering

knowing that we can strip floors with ammonia to mop up the Future before applying a fresh start for later coats of Future, every few months, that is what keeps me from using Windex around any acrylic work on a model

I highly recommend returning “miss-picks” to your vendor until you get a bottle of

“Pledge Floor Care Tile & Vinyl Floor Finish with Future Shine” UPC number 46500 00182 , SC Johnson product number 741321 (seen on bottom of label, through the bottle)

or call SC Johnson at 800-558-5252 and describe exactly what you want, and they can tell you what labeling has been in use since 2010

Hey Chrisk-k,

I didn’t think much about it until I read this. Is this what you have?

I have done about 22 pieces of clear plastic since I got it!

Uh…ooppps! Man I hope I didn’t ruin my canopies. Anyone have any suggestions? Wonder if this stuff is the same or should I do another order with Amazon for the right stuff?

Eagle90

Eagle90,

Yeah, that’s exactly what I got from Amazon! I contacted Amazon and they said it was different from “Pledge Tile & Vinyl Finish w/ Future Shine.” Amazon has issued a full refund and is taking the wrong items back. However, your clear parts look fine to me.

I forgot to mention that an Amazon rep told me that the vendor (the Candy Store) no longer has the right stuff advertised on Amazon. So don’t bother ordering from Amazon.

Chrisk-k,

I started to do the same with Amazon and the wife decided she wants to keep the stuff I have for the bathroom…go figure. Anyway, I dipped those canopies and I thought they looked alright, but I wonder if this will hurt them in the long run i.e. fog up, not cure hard enough. I also wonder if I should dip them again when I get the right stuff. As a side note, we have never had trouble with Amazon. Their customer service has always been top notch. Let me know where you get yours from. I might check our Ace this week to see if they have it. Thanks for posting this…I might have kept using this “counterfeit” stuff! [;)]

I went to Giant to buy some coffee. I thought, “Maybe here?” Voila. I saw three bottles of “Pledge Floor Care Tile & Vinyl Floor Finish with Future Shine” ($6.68 each). I bought them all  Three bottles will last for a long time!~

Cool! 3 bottles should last you a long time! I’m going to try a couple of stores this week and see what I can find. Still not sure if I should dip the canopies again with the Future stuff. Hey, post some pics of anything you dip…I can see how it compares to what I have dipped.

Eagle90

I was also thinking while reading this. Someone should try one of those headlight cleaner things like wipe new I keep seeing on tv, and see if it works better. But yes, I found my future at Giant, almost any grocery store has it.

I contacted SC Johnson…

Rest assured the product you received is not counterfeit – we’ve recently restaged our Pledge® Floor Care products, and the product formerly known as Pledge® Tile & Vinyl Floor Finish with Future Shine is now Pledge® Floor Care Multi-Surface Finish.
Therefore, you can expect it to provide the same great, shiny results as it always has. Thanks for writing; please let us know if we can help in any other way. Best regards,

Man, SC Johnson should learn how to better communicate with customers. If they put the above message on the Pledge Web site, our lives would be MUCH easier.

First, thanks for contacting SC! So we DO have the right stuff…great, now I need to get the bottle back from the wife! [:D]

Thanks again Chrisk-k!

Hi,

Just to add to ChrisK’s info. I was in the local (Delaware) Giant today and, though I already had one bottle of the original Future, I decided to see if it was avalilable. Sure enough there were two bottles of Pledge with Future Shine on a bottom shelf at $6.88 per. I now have two bottles - should last me a while.

Chris - good info on the name change.
