Yet another group build idea...

Hey eveyone, I’m planning on building a 1/48 NASA T-38 from the Sword kit I bought recently. As I was looking over the NASA photos of their T-38s, I noticed a lot of other aircraft in the background. Suddenly I had a great idea for a group build project…NASA’s Airforce!

There are a tone of different aircraft that NASA/NACA has flown over the years, so I’m sure there is a little something for everyone. I even have a NASA F-18B kit I need to build sometime too.

So what do you think? Is there any interest?

I’ll sign up, I was planning on building NASA’s new B-52H anyway in 1/200. This would give me an excuse to finish it in a timely manner.

Great ideea. I´m interested if there´s no rush i.e. open ended or something. Does the X-15 count or does it have to be a jet?

I would say that it ever flew with NASA or NACA markings, it’s fair game. Of course, I am thinking aircraft, not spacecraft. I would count the X-15 as an airplane, so it would be fine. Helicopters are okay too… I’ve seen some pictures of a few different NASA helos out there.

I’m thinking about starting at the beginning of May. That will give me time to finish a few others before embarking on yet another kit. We can keep the time open ended, but I’m hoping to have it finished by the end of July… if you don’t set goals for yourself, you’ll never achieve them. [;)]

I have a 1/72 U-2C and Superscale markings for NASA’s Earth Survey Aircraft but the timing is terrible I’m afraid. I already have three GBs running through then and one starting right after that. Interesting idea but looks like I’ll have to sit it out.

I think it’s a great idea…but I’m just over committed to GB’s this year or I would participate. I’ll be watching.

If I were going to participate I would find one of the oop “Super Guppy” kits and build it with the NASA markings and paint scheme.

I have a picture of a model of an SR-71 painted in the NASA colors of white with the blue stripe down the side. It was done as a suggestion for when NASA got the 3 SR’s from the USAF in 1990. I don’t think they any of them were actually painted that way. Would that count?
