My wife suggested a more modern aircraft for my grandson’s room when he visits. Normally I just do WW2 aircraft.
Long story short, I didn’t want to invest much until…
I knew I could build it and enjoy it
I could make it look decent
So i picked what i thought would be the easy button, a 1/48 scale F-117A, in flight, since I hang them.
I found an open box Monogram kit from probably the 90’s on eBay. Was not expecting the decals to be of any use but I didn’t expect the canopy and all clear parts to be yellowed. They are. Any recommendations?
I think you are good to go and are just seeing something you aren’t used to. Many jet aircraft have somewhat tinted canopy or glass. If I’m not mistaken that’s probably what you are seeing in the kit.
Here’s the reasoning (pulled randomly off of the web).
“The F-117 Nighthawk canopy is not yellow, but features a thin, transparent metallic coating, typically gold or indium tin oxide, that can reflect light with a yellow-ish or brownish-gold tint. This is a crucial element of its stealth design, not merely for cosmetic purpose”
It’s very noticeable on F-16s as well. There seems to be a few different, slightly different colours (especially on the Falcon), but I’m pretty sure it’s often just the viewing angle.
