i’m working on an EA-6B prowler in 1:48 scale, how do i get the emergency pull handle yellow and black strips to look ‘identical’ on the 4 seats in the cockpit? any easy, sure fire ways? or am i just crazy for trying to get them to look the same?
No easy, sure fire way I’m afraid. I have used a draftsman’s .005 pen and that works pretty good. You can find them at art supply shops. You could go the rout of free hand with a fine brush and take your time with black paint. I’ve only seen two or three really pull it off right tho.
I have tried using black decals to make them before, but it is very hard to get them to conform to the surface and stick correctly. If you come up with something let us know.

Try a thread wrap - can work depending on the scale involved (I’ve never tried it at 48).
Two threads wrapped side by side after making the underlying plastic sufficently sticky to hold the threads

I know a guy that twists yellow and black thin plastic covered wire together and installs that.
I know anohter guy that uses 1/64" lineart tape to tape off yellow painted wires and then spray black, and from the wire segment he cuts out his handle segments and installs. This is normally in 1/32 for him.

i like the thread wrap idea. i’m currently trying to masking the stripes with tape. patience is definitely the key. i’ve tried the freehand route many times in the past, and it works pretty well with one seat in the cockpit. but with 4 seats and them sitting in pairs side by side, my hand / eye coordination ain’t up to the task. it’s hell gettin’ old! [sigh] thanks for the help guys
If you find the treads are looking a bit too, erm, “thready” try dipping them in Future and hanging them up (with a weight on the end) to dry; it helps stop them from unravelling and tames some of the loose hairs that can pull away.
Sounds like the coloured wire might be a good alternative at the larger scales - thanks for that one, it’ll save me some playtime!
