Hi all

Quick question: what kits are available of the Curtiss XP-40Q?

Not sure what’s out there now, but if you can wait a while (hopefully not too long), AMtech has just announced that theirs is in the works (and yes, it looks like they are actually making progress!) Here’s a link about it:

The only kit I can think of that’s currently available is the Planet Models 1/48 XP-40Q-2. I’m not really sure if any of the 72nd kits are still available, but there were at least three. Don’t really recall the manufacturers… 72nd isn’t my thing. Merlin was one of them maybe…

Anyhoo, AMtech has a 1/48 P-40Q series coming but ‘when’ is the question. There’s an update over on Hyperscale about these with boxart, some photos of the resin wheels and some 3D representations of some of the kit parts. Hopefully these kits aren’t too awful far off.

The box art looks good. Wonder if the kit will ever be actually released, as all Amtech is showing of the kit are some computer renderings of the parts. At least a glimmer of hope.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed this time, Rick. I think AMtech realizes they have a lot on the line with this kit. Not only is it a matter of simply producing something again (outside of the P-40K which is their P-40E reboxed with a nice resin tail), but this is their first true ‘AMtech’ kit that they’ve had a hand in from start to finish (I believe this is the case). As a result, lots of folks are going to scrutinize the kit and judge AMtech based on it.

I’ll definitely buy one when it comes out (Yes, I’m being an optimist by saying “when” and not “if”!) I’m also hoping that this means the other kits they announce ages ago will finally see the light of day, especially a retooled P-61.

I’ll probably get the AMtech kit when its released…racer or fighter I don’t know, the box art for each is amazing…I have heard of a Pegasus limited run kit a few months back.
