Hello fellow airmen,

I was looking on eBay the other day and saw several. Here’s a 1/72 AMT for about $20 with shipping.

Even at 1/72 that’s got to be a BIG kit !

Chris

The XB-70 is about 190’ long, so it would be just over 30" I think?

IIRC, I think ecard does one in 1/48.

AMT did one in 1/72. It’s a real hoss.

Once made by AMT now by Italeri-

Kits can still be found:

XB-70

However, I have been told that lots of fitting and filling is required.

The italeri re-release of AMT’s 1/72 XB-70 is still readily available - if you’re into 1/72 styrene, it’s the only game in town.

The kit does have some fit issues where the fuselage joins to the top of the wing - it’s not that bad, but it does run along the full length of the joint, so filler is required. Don’t be tempted to squash the fuselage halves down to take up the gap, or you will end up with flat topped fuselage in this area - it’s easier if you just plan to fill this area from the start. There are also some issues where the long fuselage center section meets both the short forward section & the rear of the wing - but a bit of dry fitting & adjustment take care of most of it.

The kit is well worth the build & makes an impressive model, which makes the 1/72 B-1b look small.

There’s also the old Lindberg 1/180 box scale kit from the 60’s. Not much detail as per the small scale, but the shape is pretty close, it’s more affordable and it’s a manageable size.

And if you want to go super-small. it has been kitted in 1/288 by a company whose name escapes me (I want to say Otaki butI I’m probably wrong).

I was just having a look at some of the XB-70’s that have been done in various scales over the years & came across the Linberg 1/169 “TWA Future Mach 3 Jetliner”;

Both the kit & the subject are news to me - was this an actual proposal, an idea, or just something from an overly fertile mind at linberg

A very sincere thanks to everyone. What about the other “X” Planes? Same stuff as before, and any criteria is happily accepted

It is. That’s why mine is still sitting on a shelf waiting for me to build it when I have room to hang it somewhere.

Many years ago I built a Contrails XB-70 vacuform kit, now you want to talk about something that took time and effort that kit was a beast. I was into the project for almost two years when AMT came out with their kit. The time I spent on the kit was also time spent away from the kit trying to heal up from the mental damage,ha, ha. I’m going to dive into two of my AMT 70s in a month or so…maybe—I’ll let everyone know, Magoo
