XB-36 and YB-60

Does anyone know if there has ever been a kit or a Conversion Kit for the XB-36 or the YB-60…starting from a 1/72 B-36 by Revell.

Welcome to the Forum

The only conversion I’ve seen for the Monogram/Revell B-36 was to convert the plane to the XC-99 and that was probably 15 years ago. Unfortunatly nothing for the XB-36 or the XB-60.

I wish I could help you more and I really wish I hadnt deleted the email from the guy… but anyway over a year ago I talked to some guy about building a B-29 and he was talking about some of his kits and mentioned creating a YB-60 using a B-36 kit and a B-52 kit. Your going to really kick me once I tell you he sent a picture too. It looked great! I saved the pic to the computer but it all kinda got wiped out by the mydoom virus a while back.

Youve got my interest though and Im going to try to search for the site and see if I can contact the guy. If I can Ill hook you up.

Can’t help you with the conversions you mentioned, but I have a Monogram B-36 reissue (I guess from the mid-1990’s), which can be built as an RB-36. Maybe that’s an option included in al reissues of the kit (Monogram or Revell, I have only looked inside my own sample), but I thought I’d just mention it to you. Good luck with building the beast!

I think I have heard of someone using a B-36 and B-52 to make a YB-60

I don’t have it in front of me, but one of my B-36 books (I don’t remember which) has a section on modeling. If I recall correctly, someone did a conversion of the 1/72 B-36 to a YB-60, although I don’t know if a B-52 kit was used. There were pictures of the completed model, which was very impressive.

Sorry that this is so vague, but if you like I can dig up the book when I get home and post more information about it.

The book in question is Detail & Scales B-36 book (Volume 47). Photos of the conversions for both the YB-60 and XC-99 are shown, but unfortunately the methods for them aren’t described. Both are impressive models, though.
