X-Wing Starfighter Bandai | No. 0191406 | 1:72

Question for all you Star Wars builders out there.

Is there an available pre-mixed paint out there for the body of the X-Wing? The instructions have a mix. But I would think after time, someone would have developed a color already.

MIG sells 2 sets that should work:
AMM7131 AMMO by Mig Paint Set - Space Fighters - Sprue Brothers Models LLC
AMM7130 AMMO by Mig Paint Set - Star Defenders - Sprue Brothers Models LLC

I have this Vallejo set

Looks good in the bottles.

So, of the colors in the sets. Which is used for the body? Is it the gray or the white?

If you’re willing to put the cash out for it, ArchiveX has a set of studio scale accurate colors.

I guess it depends on how much weathering you plan on doing. If light weathering, you can get by with the grey. For heavier weathering you could use the white. You could also base coat with white and paint some of the panels light grey.

In support of @veedubb67’s point. I started the tiny version of the x-wing with vallejo grey primer.
Which in most lighting looks nearly white. By the time weathering and washes were done the color had shifted.
If any interest in how it looked before and after you can check it out here.

I was looking over scalemates over the weekend and one build used white grey as their base colour.

I messaged someone over on Scalemates who has done a lot of Star Wars models and he uses Vallejo Air 71.119 White Gray as his base.

Did you see the 1/144 and 1/72 x wing build? That guy used Vallejo and it came out pretty good on the pictures.

A long time ago, in a childhood far, far, away, I built the MPC X-wing when it was brand-new. I used a flat white primer (Floquil, I think) for the base color, then proceeded to slobber the model with dirty paint thinner. The color shift to grey was pretty convincing, considering the studio props were painted in a similar way.
