X-15 Query?

I’m working on special hobbies X-15, and have been searching for any refrence photos that i can get. I have come up dry. Could any one help?
Thanks
Drew

Hiya Drew,

Here’s a few sites to get you started off:

X-15 Photo Page on the Dryden Site
X-15 on Prototypes.com
X-15 on Testpilot.ru
X-15 Walkaround on CyberModeler
X-15 ‘Pilot Report’

Fade to Black…

look here as well … http://www.dfrc.nasa.gov/index.html

I have an XLR-99 rocket motor in the museum…let me know if you intend to build the engine displayed. Actually, are you building it with the single XLR-99 or the four XLR-11s?

Just as a note…the exhaust cone of the engine is not metal, it’s a light gray ceramic with a corrugated surface…I’ll take a pic or two for you and post 'em here.

Jeff

Found a few sites which might be of interest:

http://www.worldspaceflight.com/addendum/x-plane/x-photo.htm (X plane fans are gonna LOVE this one!!)
http://www.fiddlersgreen.net/aircraft/jets/X-15/X-15info/X15-info.htm

It’s not an online resource, but check out:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1896522653/qid=1081754719/sr=1-3/ref=sr_1_3/103-2513527-3964642?v=glance&s=books

Aside from tons of photos, diagrams, and a CD-ROM of video and photos, it also contains pilot bios, flight manuals, flight logs and even old X-15 ads! X-15 fans will love it!

If you look down a bit on that page linked by Trigger, there’s a link to the ‘X-15 Scrapbook’. This is a way-cool book and a must have for X-15 nuts. ‘Hypersonic’, which is linked on the same page, is also an excellent volume.

For detail shots, you can’t get much better than Aerofax Datagraph #2, 'North American X-15/X-15A-2. This one on Amazon is going for $10, which is a great buy…

Saw the Hypersonic book at Barnes & Noble the other day. Lots of great pics. Would be my vote for a ref.

The Hypersonic book is the one to get, also they published a book of photos they couldn’t fit in the first book. Those are super references. When I start my Special Hobbies kit, that’s what I’ll be using.

Oh wow! Thanks guys for the help. I checked out most of those sites and am thrilled! Thanks jeff for the info on the motor. I don’t plan to display it out, but that is good info on the ceramic though.
Thanks a million
Drew.

Lots of good X-15 reference material, thanks!!
