I finally took a trip(yesterday) to the WWII Victory Museum in Auburn, Indiana and boy did I have a great time. I also brought along two cameras to snap a ton of pics![8-] The ride going there was uneventful, but resonably quick(I simply put on the cruise control and relaxed.[;)]) When I finally did get there(3 hour drive) I had a fantastic time in the museum, plus their was a History Fest going on outside with re-enactors.
I took quite a few pics, saw a strange German “dummy-tank”, and a ton of other WWII German/Allied vehicles. Even a Vietnam-era gun truck.
I even saw the M-3 Scout Car that I just recently built![8D] I had to take some serious time to admire it and to get a pic next to it.
I got some great reference pics, such as the interior of many vehicles, including the ‘Dragon Wagon’. Not to mention closeups of some weapons(like the .30 cal.)
Then at the History Fest, I saw some tools and stuff used in WWII(got some great pics.) Saw a short re-enactment. Then I even saw a Huey fly by over-head and land nearby.
What a great way to spend a day!!![:D] Oh, and then if that wasn’t enough I saw some up-armored Humvees with improved bullet-proof windows and armor plating(painted in tri-color camo) on a flat-bed when I was driving home. I would have gotten a pic, but I couldn’t reach the camera(probably because I was going 85 mph or so.) Nevertheless, it was a GREAT DAY and well-worth the drive!! Now I can’t wait to head back there for AMPS Nationals next year.
I’ve driven by signs for that place on my way home form Minnesota several times. I never found the time to stop. Looks like I may have to make my way out there some time. Is it worth driving 3 hours to see?
/forums/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1164256Nice pics. You have anymore? You should check out the pics I just took at the Patton Museum
Note that some of the pieces have postwar “fixes” that aren’t completely true to original. One example is the now gutted interior of the Marder III has missing pieces and the Gescutzwagen H39 has a bogus Pak 40 breech.
Geist- Let me just say it’s well worth driving 3 hours to see. Heck, if I had to drive 6 hours I definately would.[8D] I do have a few more pics, but not alot of the overall vehicles. Mostly close-ups of interiors and stuff like that.(to help me with scratching)
I already checked out some of your pics from the Patton Museum. You got some great pics for references![tup]
