WWII German Super Heavy Tanks P1000 & P1500

Interesting. Would have been monsters to go up against.

Super Heavy Tanks
1000-ton Panzer
1500-ton Self-Propelled 80cm Gun

P 1000 / P 1500

Coming soon from Dragon … probably. [:p]

Old boardgame called OGRE (steve jackson games) had something similar.

Just another reason the Germans lost the war. What were they thinking? They shoud have just mass produced Panthers untill they ran out of steel. They say they could build two Panthers for every Tiger. Must admit it was their most balanced tank though. One could only imagine what those two impractable beheamoths would have looked like.

Tigerman you’re right,
However if they hadn’t been like that, we wouldn’t have had some of the most interesting war machines ever made to model now.

We wouldn’t have things like the sd kfz 250 - funky even for a half track
All those 8-rad & vehicles with two way driving
Some cool planes like the ME 262 & the ME 163 Comet

It’s good for modelers 50+ years later

Yes, those looked good and formidable on paper. Don’t get me wrong, those are brilliant designs but I strongly believed that the right technology did not exist at that time to make such design feasible or practical. The King Tiger would be a good example. It is a very potent weapon but it encountered a lot of problems due to its enormous weight. Problems that were shared by the Jadtigers. They became good defensive weapons but not compatible with Germany’s “Blitzkrieg” strategies.

Also, I agree with Tigerman, that if Germany focussed on the production of the Panther, they could have possibly delayed the end of the war.

Hi guys. Dwight Ta-ala, you’re right about the King Tiger, formidable tank, but not good for offensive purposes. Ditto Jagdtiger. Build22 the Germans made many of the most interesting weaponry of the war, though not always the most practical. Take the enormous gun Gustav for example. 80cm cannon that had to be supported by 2000 men and transported on rails. Stupid eh? I like alot of their weird weapons: Elefant(another what were you thinking), Mistel bomb(bomber and fighter connected together) V-bombs and so on. Just goes to show you, superiority in brains can’t beat superiority in manufacturing. Unless it were the A-bomb…

Yeah that’s what I mean- querky, weird, but great to model !

Who, in their right mind would have come with something like that “kettenkraftrad”
or the the nebelwerfer

These go beyond quirky, they are simply stupid designs. they would have to been driven, cross country, everywhere. No road or rail could have carried them. There would be no way to keep them hidden during a build-up and B-17s were known to hit smaller targets.

On the far side of it all, Hitler could have been just another modeller who wants to build 'em on 1/1 scale. Building as many different kits as he possibly can.
