Does anyone out there have a good reference site or sites for Allied & Axis Uniform painting references for all Theaters of WWII. Most of the stuff I’ve found so far pertains to gamers and I’m looking for 1/35 scale so I need better detail. I’ll be waiting with baited breath.
If you do image searches for each particular national army that you are interested in, there are often re enactor websites that are good for visual reference. No painting suggestions of course. But a good place to form some ideas from.
Yeah, That’s what I’ve been doing so far. I was hoping somebody had already done the hard work and posted it somewhere. Oh well I guess I have to do my research just like everyone else.
The only good site that has what you want that I have stumbled across is Modeling the US Army in WWII. run a google search under those words and you will find the site. I stumbled across it years ago and bookmarked it. Unfortunately for you, I am on my POS tablet right now and trying to do any copying, linking, etc, is like herding cats. Not gonna happen unless it wants to…
I’m not sure what more you are seeking (other than having everything under one website), but a 28mm figure and a 1/35 scale figure would still use the same base paint colours, ie. German fieldgrey, American olive drab, British khaki, and so on.
Some miniature sites I’ve seen give very detailed lists of colours, not just for the uniform, but boots, equipment, helmets, etc.
In addition to the web, keep your eyes open at Libraries and Yard sale tables
Look for a small series of books by Kenneth Munson (if I have that right),he did a series of Hardbound books in a 5 by 8 inch size, each on a different military subject
one of those books was Uniforms of the World, stating around the Roman Empire and going up to the Vietnam war era, each page was a color painting with a small paragraph at the bottom, some had 3 or 4 people in the paintings
I used those books as my early references in wargamming paints back in the sixties/early seventies, they should be cheap by now, if you can find them
