WWI Austin Armoured Car Mk III

This is a 72nd scale kit from MasterBox, and I’ve aslo added a small PE set from NorthStar specifically dedicated to this subject. Below is an actual wartime photo:

From what I understand, these third series of cars where specifically built for Russia - though that does not aid in the matters of trying to determine what colour they actually were finished in. This particular build represents a vehicle captured by the Austro-Hungarians. Their plan was to utilize a mixed platoon of vehicles collected from both captured and their own designs, and to be utilized in the breakthrough created on the Italian front. Time ran out though for the chance to finally realize the potential of the armoured car.

Very nicely done on an interesting subject.

Very interesting vehicle. It really does not look to be 72nd scale, great job on the weathering.

Beautiful project there, Jack! Build & finishing just superb.

Love these old-era armoured cars: always reminded of a veteran’s description I read in some long ago memoir…saying they looked like ‘angry dust-bins with wheels!’

Templar, Bruce, and Greg - very appreciated those positive comments.

Most of the weathering/discolouration was achieved with layered filters of ochre, brown and grey. More dense areas are powdered pigments.

‘angry dust-bins with wheels!’ - indeed a very apt description of these early armoured cars.

Another great job there Jack!

Dust-bin fits, gotta love how they were just figuring things out back then- just bolt some armour on a car and slap some turrets on.

Hi Cliff - thanks!

Jack
