WW1 Tanks

Hi Guys,
Anyone knows which kit makers make 1/35 kits of the British MK tanks?
Cheers,
[:)]

In 1/35 Emhar makes both Mk iv male and female, plus the whippet. Look at squadron’s website or catalog, they usually carry british and french ww1 tanks in 1/35 and 1/72. G.L.

Thanks glweeks… I’ll look into that. If there’re other kit makers who make these kits, do tell us.

Squadron currently has all the Emhar 1/35 WW I tanks on sale - sale lasts until the end of July.

Got it.!

Not sure of the quality of this kit? I have read that they are better than Emhar.

Thanks Chris… I’ll look into both the Emhar and the Interus… [:D]

Emhar makes both 1/72nd and 1/35th WW1 armor - supposedly a new MkV, Tauro Models makes the 1/35th A7V, Interus makes the 1/35th MkV.

RPM makes a range of FT-17’s

And ABER do two comprehensive detail sets plus a MAD track set (I used Fuilmodel ones with the Aber details added (did not use the main plates as they are just bonkers !)

Chris,

I’ve got the Interus kit. There is a lot of uneccessary detail - parts for the sake of parts. The 6pdr and the Hotchkiss mgs can be thrown away.

I got really exited about the tracks - the shape was beautifuuly captured, including the bullnose and the chamfer; the rivet spacing is spot on. It’s only when you start measuring that you find that the tracks are 23,5" wide, instead of 20,5" or 26,5" that you find the fault. Either live with it (most people wouldn’t know) or get replacements. The instructions are distinctly dodgy in places and I wouldn’t recommend the kit to anyone who is not experienced. The visual effect of the model is better than the Emhar MkIVs because of the tracks, but both could be described as a “curate’s egg”.

There was comment made earlier that the tank was only produced as a hermaphrodite. This would appear to be incorrect, although all the MkVs in Germany and Russia are reported to be of this variety. David Fletcher lists specifications for both male and female in his book “Landships”.

It’s been a long, long time, but didn’t Tauro once make a British WW1 tank kit as well as the A7V? I bought the German kit (still NIB) back in the 80’s and remember seeing another kit by them on the shelf. Or is it my imagination? (always a possibility)

Wow, this thread was dug out of the basement! Tauro did the A7V (two different boxings with different decals) and they did an Italian copy of the Ft-17 called the Fiat 3000. Again, this came in two different boxings but the same kit inside.

I have the Tauro A7V on my shelf. There’s alot inside the box. The sprues, instruction and decals are all in one large bag, so it’s hard to see what’s all there. (I don’t want to open that bag right now, it may get messy). I’ll tell you that I see large hull parts, many many roadwheel looking things and some metal springs and pins. This one looks more challenging to build than the Emhar Mk IV “Male” that I built many moons ago. According to landships.com, the interior provided with this kit is inaccurate and needs tweaking, but at least it has an interior. I think this kit would make a great base for a cut-away project.

Semper Fi,

Chris

I just nabbed a 1/35 Whippet (Emhar) off the “Bay” at a very good price. I see the Emhar WWI kits appear every couple of weeks or so. I was on the fence about getting one until I saw the Whippet available at a bargain.

Tony - thanks for providing a general review of the Interus kit. There’s currently on on “the Bay” and I was trying to determine if I should go snatch it. I like the tank, but wanted something other than the Emhar offering. Sounds like the Interus has some plus/minuses.

Best Regards - Larry
